Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done...
For many of us, these words are so familiar that we could recite them in our sleep... but have you ever looked further into what those words truly mean? Today, I'm sharing a new docuseries that does just that: The Sacred Thread. Check it out:
The Sacred Thread is a cinematic documentary series exploring the Lord’s Prayer through the historical, cultural, geographical, and literary world in which Jesus first spoke it. Hosted by Brad Gray and featuring insights from scholars including N.T. Wright, the series takes viewers across biblical landscapes to uncover the deeper meaning and context behind one of the most well-known prayers in Scripture.
Through cinematic storytelling and accessible scholarship, the series invites audiences to see Scripture with fresh eyes and rediscover the richness, depth, and relevance of the Biblical text.
I'm admittedly not a huge documentary watcher, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this one, but I found myself really drawn into it. These words truly are so familiar, but there was something about getting that historical context that really helped me to understand a little more as to not just what those words meant on the surface, but about what the audience hearing them would have understood about them as well. More importantly though, I loved that it was packed full of those scriptural references that I could go back and read for myself, not just taking the host's word for it... something I think is always very important when we're looking at anything related to Bible study whether that be an actual study or a documentary such as this. I enjoyed how it was broken down line by line into each episode, really digging deep into those words, while still being easy to understand.
