I have been part of the Christian and closed-door book community for 15+ years through my blog and Bookstagram. Between my experience as an ARC/Beta reader and my own writing, I have developed a good eye for catching mistakes that often get overlooked. I have decided to use these skills to offer proofreading services for closed-door/fade to black authors.
I know that being an indie author comes with a lot of expenses, so my goal is to provide affordable proofreading services without sacrificing quality. Prices are subject to change, so please see the most current pricing in the form linked at the bottom of this page.
What can you expect from my services?
Basic Proofreading
Ideally, proofreading should be the last step to give your book that last bit of polish before being published. As such, this service does not include any copyediting or story feedback. I will also not specifically be looking for inconsistencies, though I will point them out should I notice any. I will be looking instead for common issues like typos, grammar, spelling, capitalization, verb agreement, commonly misused words/phrases, punctuation, missing or unnecessary words, etc.
Quick Turnaround and Flexible Scheduling
I am a very quick reader! While I do read at a slower pace when proofreading, I am generally able to proofread and have notes returned in 2-3 days. That being said, I DO still prefer a minimum of one week or more, when possible. Payments via Paypal Invoice
Upon agreement of terms and pricing, I will send an invoice via PayPal for the full amount, with 10% being due upfront as a downpayment. The remaining will be due upon completion. I will only begin my proofread after the downpayment is received. (Note: A PayPal account is NOT required to pay invoice. If you are still unable to pay via PayPal, please reach out and I will see if we can come to another payment method agreement.)My Proofreading Process
Due to chronic migraines, I ask that all manuscripts are sent to me via ePub, so that I can read on my Kindle. (PDF may be acceptable as well, though not preferred.) As I read through your book, I will highlight any issues I come across, then go back at the end and add detailed notes on what those issues were and how to fix them (including any research I may have done, when applicable), which will be sent over to you for correction. This is typically done via screenshots from the Kindle app with the chapter, enough wording to find the issues and my notes. I have found that this works really well for the authors I have proofread for before but am open to other options if you have a method that works better for you. What type of books will I proofread?
I prefer to proofread the same books that I read: contemporary romance, romcom, romantic suspense and women's fiction. While I AM open to other genres as well, I feel I am most familiar with (and therefor better able to understand reader expectations) for these most read genres. You can take a look at my Instagram or Goodreads for a better idea of the type of books I typically read.I am a closed-door reader, and as such do prefer that books are Christian and/or closed-door up to fade to black. I may accept very vague open door or cracked door, but please reach out with specifics so I can decide on a case-by-case basis. I will not proofread books that are overtly spicy/explicit.
