Looking for a fun read for your YA reader... or yourself? The newest book in The Issachar Gatekeeper series, The Ghost You Can't See by L.G. Nixon, has arrived! Take a look:
Lucy is experiencing a new level of spirit hauntings designed to bring her to a halt. Deceptive and nefarious beings are playing mind games, and she begins to doubt the love of her friends and family. She must learn to see beyond the obvious and discern the hidden truth. When she accidentally breaks a valuable antique, she discovers an ancient plot to overthrow the High King and destroy the beautiful city of Ascalon. The dark prince, Darnathian, is getting closer to finding the location of the Life tree and Lucy may not be able to stop him.
I have to admit, I'm not much of a fantasy reader... nor do I read a lot of YA books. (At 30-something years old, I'm certainly not the ideal audience), but I have to say that from the moment I picked up the first book, I couldn't help but be drawn into this world of ghost hunting right away. It was wonderfully written and captivated me from the start. But... ghost stories in Christian fiction? That's certainly not something you see every day! I loved how the author explained it all over here: https://lgnixon.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/problemwithghosts.pdf. This has some really good talking points to discuss with your children and while this is a story that I would personally feel comfortable letting my daughter read, as she has a pretty good understanding of such things. But, if in doubt, I'd definitely recommend checking it out for yourself before making that decision for your child. Reading together can also be a great way to start a discussion. I personally appreciate being able to offer my daughter a story that has those supernatural elements that capture her attention... while still pointing to God too!
