About the Author

Loretta Eidson

Award-winning author Loretta Eidson lives by the motto ‘never a dull moment,’ especially with her four children, thirteen grandchildren, and four great-grands. Her love of reading began during the required library time in middle school, where she devoured Phyllis Whitney’s mystery novels before she moved on to suspense author Frank Peretti. She left her eighteen-year administrative assistant position at her church to pursue the dream of writing inspirational romantic suspense. She has multiple short stories in anthologies, but her heart is writing romantic suspense. She believes in the power of prayer and loves putting her hero and heroine in realistic predicaments where they must trust God to pull them through.

Author Interview

Welcome, Loretta! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and giving my readers a chance to get to know you and your new book The Marine's Deadly Reunion.

I like to start these interviews the same way, with something fun to break the ice. Can you share 5 random facts about you that we will not find in your bio?

  1. My husband was a captain with the police department and a helicopter pilot for them. I flew with him several times while he tracked criminals through the city. It was pretty cool seeing how the infrared camera worked.
  2. I played first base in co-ed softball and earned the nickname Stretch because I was tall and could stretch my arm out to catch wild balls.
  3. I directed the senior play in high school (Arsenic and Old Lace).
  4. I sang backup on a CD recording years ago at Ardent Studios in Memphis. My friend was the lead singer. We wrote our own songs. (This took me so far out of my introvert comfort zone that I cried all the way home and refused to sing in front of anyone again.)
  5. I’ve written silly non-professional poems for fun get-togethers, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

When did you first discover you had a passion for writing?

After working in my church for eighteen years and listening as people poured their hearts out about hurts, disappointments, anger, etc., I felt the tug to write inspirational stories where my characters must trust God to get them through every situation just like I’d shared with members of my church over coffee.

What drew you to writing romantic suspense?

I’ve always loved suspenseful movies and reading books that kept me on the edge of my seat. Once I felt the call to write, there was no question what genre I’d choose. Suspense with a touch of romance is a fun combination and I love writing about it.

Are you a plotter or a panster? Tell us a little about your writing routine.

I’ve always called myself a panster, however, since I’ve been putting together proposals for publishers and writing 10-12 a page synopsis for each, I’ve almost turned into a plotter. Maybe I’m a “plotting panster.” 😊

I am always curious about the topics in an author’s search history— especially suspense writers! What’s the most incriminating (or interesting) one we’d find in yours?

Too funny. You’d find questions like: What drug kills instantly and is tasteless? How fast do bodies decompose? Where’s the best place to bury a body?

If you could describe your main character(s) in just three words each, what would those words be?

US Marine Jake Fisher – trustworthy, fearless, determined  Police Sergeant Daria Gordon protective, trained, compassionate

Can you tell us a little bit more about The Marine's Deadly Reunion?

US Marine Jake Fisher is called home from active duty to care for his eighteen-month-old niece, Emma. He’d been left full custody of her after his sister died in a car wreck. He believes someone murdered his sister and is convinced when bullets start flying and someone tries to kidnap the baby.

Police Sergeant Daria Gordan is determined to be a good cop after being reprimanded for her temper, but meets up with Jake, her middle school best friend, after years apart and struggles to keep the reigns on him in this murder investigation and attempted abduction of his niece. He had authority in Afghanistan, but she has authority in town. He unknowingly puts her and her authority to the test.

What was the most challenging part of bringing this story to life? The most rewarding?

The most challenging part of bringing this story to life was writing the villain into the story so he/she isn’t immediately recognized by the reader as the bad guy and builds suspense until the grand reveal.

The most rewarding part was writing about the hero and heroine, both of whom are or were in positions of power. They enter a power play struggle as they search for a killer while trying to protect a baby. The fun part was when they realized they could work together as a team and play off each other's strengths.

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

It is my prayer that readers will take away the fact that God is trustworthy, and He is more than able to handle every situation if you will put your faith and trust in Him.
