Mistletoe Kisses & Something Merry by Ranee S. Clark: Book Review

*Book received for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

A sweet holiday romance inspired by Jane Austen's Sense & Sensibility.

Mila has the holidays all planned—board a plane, visit her brother Eli, and enjoy Christmas with family. So when a nasty flu hits and she finds herself puking into her overnight bag in an Uber instead, she isn’t happy.

Nor is she happy that Eli has sent Landon, of all people, to take care of her. Friends like Landon shouldn’t see her sprawled on her front steps, too weak to even unlock the door. And he shouldn’t be so sweet about sending her to bed and tending to her every need. Above all, he most definitely should
not be doing her laundry. The laundry she just puked all over in a stranger’s car.

But as Landon cares for her, Mila is forced to come to terms with the spark that’s been there all along. She’s the flighty one, and the last thing she wants to do is hurt the man who cradled her on the couch while she fought a fever. Perhaps the only way to protect his heart is to break her own by ignoring the fire between them.

Now if she can just avoid the mistletoe…

Mistletoe Kisses & Something Merry is the companion novella to Best Friends, Backups & Something More, a sweet sports romance.

In a house overrun by boys, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Raneé loves football and enjoys watching (and playing!) other sports as well, like basketball and baseball. When she’s not chauffeuring three busy boys to various activities (and sometimes while she is!), Raneé is either writing, reading (usually romance), obsessing over clothes in the form of her online boutique, or figuring out how to get a Crumbl cookie in rural Wyoming. When her real-life love interest can drag her away from imaginary worlds, she doesn’t mind spending some time with him in the great outdoors that he loves.

Mistletoe Kisses and Something Merry is a follow-up to Best Friends, Backups and Something More. Landon and Mila (as well as several side characters mentioned) are first introduced in that previous book, so it might be helpful to have read that one first to get the most out of their story, but I think it could be enjoyed as a standalone as well.

This was such a sweet holiday story. One of my absolute favorite tropes is 'he takes care of her' (or the other way around, I'm not even picky)... which is usually such a small one- a scene or two tucked into a much longer story. Not in this one though... Mila spends half of the book with the flu, during which time Landon takes care of her... and oh my goodness, it really is just the sweetest! I just absolutely adored it! Throw in some holiday cheer and mistletoe kisses and what's not to enjoy!? I know I certainly did.

This is a super quick read--- easily read in a single sitting. While short and sweet, it didn't feel super rushed to me... just the right length for the busy holidays. If you're looking for a quick and fun holiday read, make sure to grab this one!

Mistletoe Kisses and Something Merry is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.
