Feeling Like a Change? Try These Hairstyle Changes

Getting a new haircut when there's a change in your life or you need to do something different is a bit of a cliche. But there's a reason why many of us book an appointment with our stylist or even reach for the scissors ourselves when we feel like making a change. Your hair can be really important to you, especially as a woman when many feel like it's a sign of their femininity. When you have a new haircut, it can give you a whole new perspective on the way you look and even how you feel about yourself.

There are many times in life when you might feel like a change. It could be that something significant is happening in your life, or you might just think that it's time you switched up your hairstyle. Whatever your reason for doing something different, it can be hard to know just how far you should go. There's always a risk that you do something a little too drastic and it turns out to not really suit you. Of course, hair will grow back, but there's still a possibility that you have to deal with that awkward growing-out stage until you like your hair again.

Fortunately, there are plenty of options for switching up your hairstyle. You can make changes both big and small to find your new look, whether it's just a temporary change or it's something you choose to stick with. Take a look at some of these ideas to find your new hairstyle.

Try Out Bangs

Love them or hate them, bangs can definitely make a statement. They're a great choice for framing your face, although they can require a little more maintenance than some other hairstyles. Another thing to love about bangs is that they're not just one style. You can consider lots of different ways to style your bangs so that they suit you and the rest of your hairstyle. Think about the difference between textured bangs vs. wispy bangs and how the different styles can have different effects. Just like the rest of your hair, you can layer your bangs, feather them, or even sweep them to one side.

But what if you get bangs and don't like them? It shouldn't take too long to grow them out and, in the meantime, there are ways to style them so they're out of the way. Fortunately, a lot of people do suit bangs. It could be well worth the risk if you want to try something new.

Go Shorter

Playing with length is one of the top things you can do if you want to experiment with your hairstyle. This is obviously easier to do if you have longer hair and you're thinking of going shorter. But if you're thinking of growing out your hair, you could still choose to change your regular haircuts to small trims just to keep the ends neat. A lot of women cut their hair shorter as they get older, but it's definitely not essential, and nor do you have to wait until you reach 50. If you're thinking about going shorter, the question is really just how short you should go.

There are lots of different lengths you could experiment with, from hair past your shoulders all the way to a pixie cut or even a complete shave if you're brave enough. If you're not sure what you want, start off longer. You can always go shorter if you're not happy with it, but you won't be able to stick the hair back on once it's off.

Get Extensions

Of course, you don't necessarily have to wait for your hair to grow out if you want it longer. Another option is to get extensions, which can also be a good way to add more thickness to your hair. Extensions can be put in to match your hair color as much as possible, or you could choose something in another color, either in a natural shade or something brighter. Extensions can be both temporary or semi-permanent, so decide which one you're willing to try. Before having permanent extensions put in, you might want to try out some temporary extensions to see if you like them.

Color It

Dyeing your hair is a fantastic choice if you want to switch things up because there are so many things you can do. You can opt for something subtle or you can consider something a little wilder if you want to make a more drastic change. If you've never colored your hair before, you might be a little cautious. One of the best things you can do is make sure you get it professionally colored, instead of doing it yourself at home. Ideally, it’s not something you’ll do yourself, but instead, you should visit a hair salon for. Box die is usually low quality, and if you want a positive change, then getting a professional to do it is going to be your best bet.

At a beginner level, you might consider some highlights or lowlights to complement your natural color. It's a great way to add a little more light and movement to your hair without dyeing it completely. Another option is to consider balayage or maybe even an ombre style for your hair. Even if you decide to dye all of your hair, you might choose to stick with natural colors.

If you're feeling a little more daring, there's a whole world of colors you can explore outside of the natural range. You can use them for highlights or partial coloring, or you might want to go all the way and dye all of your hair with a colorful shade. The color you can achieve might depend on your natural hair color. Additionally, you will want to ensure you choose a stylist who knows what they're doing to get the color you want. Take a look at their website or social media to see what they can achieve.

Layer It

Layering your hair is a simple but effective way to do something different when you feel like making a change. It's something a lot of people ask for when they get their hair cut anyway. Layers can help to give your hair more movement and volume and prevent it from looking too flat or one-note. It's also something you can achieve yourself if you're thinking about cutting your own hair. It's something that a lot of people tried out during the pandemic, and it can be easier to do than you might think. Of course, if you don't feel confident cutting your own hair, it's always better to get a stylist to do it for you.

Brave an Undercut

It's certainly not for everyone, but an undercut could be what you're looking for if you want to do something new with your hair. It involves shortening or completely removing layers of hair, which can create a really dramatic look. Since it only involves cutting away some of your hair, you can easily cover it up if you want to. That means you can choose to show it off, or you can use the rest of your locks to conceal it when you're not feeling it. However, if you decide to grow it out, it can be a little awkward. And if you want to keep it super short, it can require a good bit of maintenance.

Wear Some Wigs

Want to make a hair change without actually having to change your hair? Wigs can be your best friend. There are some more permanent solutions if you're looking for a long-term change, but wigs are also the perfect way to temporarily change your hair. You can wear them for the day or even just for a few hours if you want to try on a new look. It's an incredible way to make some quick changes, and it can give you an idea of whether you want to try a new hairstyle for real. If you're not sure where to start, find somewhere to try on a few styles and discover the right wigs for you.

Switch Your Part

It might not seem like a significant change, but switching your part can actually make a big difference to your hair. It's amazing how different it can look when you change from a middle to a side part or vice versa. It can completely alter the way your face is framed and how your hair falls. It also allows you to style your hair in different ways and consider different cuts that will complement the part you have chosen. It's easy to try out too, and simple to reverse if you don't like it.

Learn Some New Styles

Don't feel like doing anything permanent to your hair? You can always make a change by learning some new hairstyles instead. We often have go-to styles that we opt for when we want something easy. But they can get boring after a while. Learning a new hairstyle can sometimes be simple, but it can also take more time and effort, depending on the style. But once you know how to do it, it can be a lot easier to do it again.

There are plenty of ways to make a change if you feel like you want to do something different with your hair. It's up to you to decide how big that change might be.

  1. I have considered changing my hairstyle recently. I am thinking about going with a slightly shorter style for summer.
