I LOVE  a good Christmas movie.

I'm not going to lie... my TV has pretty much been on those sappy, inspirational Christmas films nonstop since November started... you all know the ones. I simply cannot get enough. But let's be honest... those movies are really just for me. My husband and kids? Well, they're not amused by them like I am. Not in the slightest.

They want something fun. They want something exciting. They want some good ol' fashioned Christmas magic! Today I'm so excited to share a brand new Netflix movie with you that offers just that, 'The Christmas Chronicles':

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
The Christmas Chronicles is a wishful, hilarious, family festive adventure. This is our first live action family film with a well established director and big profile actor in Kurt Russell. From producer Chris Columbus (“Home Alone”, "Harry Potter") and director Clay Kaytis ("The Angry Birds Movie"), The Christmas Chronicles, tells the story of sister and brother, Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis), whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. After staking out Santa’s arrival, they sneak into his sleigh, cause it to crash and nearly derail Christmas. As their wild night unfolds, Kate and Teddy work together with Santa - as you've never seen him before - and his loyal Elves to save Christmas before it's too late. The Christmas Chronicles premieres on Netflix, November 22, 2018!

I was recently given the chance to experience this movie in advance of it's Thanksgiving day premiere. The verdict? I absolutely LOVED it. You guys... this movie is absolutely, positively a must see this Christmas!

It had me thinking about what makes a great holiday movie, and what my family's other holiday favorites had that made them... well, favorites.

  • They had adventure. 'Home Alone' is one of my son's favorite, and it certainly is packed full of adventure, right? It kept you wondering just how Kevin was going to outsmart the wet bandits next.
  • They had humorous mishaps. This seems to be a common theme in our favorites too. From 'Home Alone' to 'Christmas With The Cranks', it seems there's always something going wrong in only a way they can in the movies! And we just cannot get enough of the laughs when they do.
  • They had music. As much as we love Christmas movies, we love the music just as much. They really can make a movie that much better. Just take a look at the fantastic soundtrack to 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' or 'The Polar Express'.
  • They have a renewed belief. Whether it's a renewed belief in the Christmas spirit or the big man himself, there's always at least one doubter throughout. 'The Santa Clause' is a great example of that! With a little bit of Christmas magic, we ALL find ourselves with a renewed Christmas spirit after watching.
'The Christmas Chronicles' had absolutely every single one of these aspects! Adventure? Absolutely--- Santa's sleigh crashing down, a chase, the inevitable arrest of Santa... oh yes, it wasn't short on adventure that's for sure! I was at the edge of my seat just wondering if they were going to be able to save Christmas in time! And those adventures of course led to their fair share of laughable mishaps too. And the music!? Oh my goodness. Let's just say there is a fantastic jailhouse scene performance by Kurt Russel that will put you in mind of that iconic blues scene in 'Adventures in Babysitting'... I feel that it has the potential to be every bit as iconic too... certainly a highlight for me. Throughout all the action, adventure and music... there really is a great heartfelt story at the center of it too. I loved seeing Teddy's character evolve throughout the movie from a kid mourning his father and struggling to believe in Christmas to believing in not only the magic of the holiday, but in himself too. I don't want to give too much away... but as much as you'll be laughing, there might be a few tears shed as well. The best part about this movie though? It truly is a movie that we can enjoy with our families. That's a rare find these days--- a film that EVERYONE thoroughly and truly enjoys. There are plenty of laughs for the adults, while still remaining very appropriate for the children too. I know this is one that we will be watching again and again as a family. 'The Christmas Chronicles' will be available to stream on Netflix on November 22. Learn more and connect at the links below.
