Unleashed {A Movie Review + Giveaway}

**Screener received for consideration. All thoughts are 100% my own.

You know... looking around, there is a LOT of bad in the world. Everywhere we look there's negativity. Be it politics, financial troubles, crime... It can be a little depressing, can't it!? Sometimes, we need a little break from it all. What better way to get that than with a great romantic comedy!?

Today, I'm excited to share with you a new movie that might just provide you that break you need- Unleashed:

In UNLEASHED, a cosmic event turns Emma's dog and cat into two perfect guys, forcing her to reconsider her outlook on dating,  hilariously work out her trust issues, and ultimately learn to love
herself. Emma, a brilliant but awkward app designer, moves to San Francisco after a massive betrayal by her boyfriend with only her beloved pets, an adorable cat and an energetic mutt, in tow. One night, drawn by the light of a Supermoon, Emma’s pets escape into the night and are transformed into full-grown men, forcing Emma to reconsider her outlook on dating and hilariously work out her trust issues.
Crazy? Yes! Hilarious? Most definitely! If you are both a pet lover AND a romantic comedy fan, chances are you are going to fall head over paws for this one! It was cute, it was cheesy, it was hilarious... everything I look for in a romantic comedy. You could easily find yourself laughing along and perhaps even find yourself wondering how your pet would act if they too became human! It also has everything that so many love about a great pet movie--- the friendship, the love and the great lessons too.

This is a super cute movie, and while it might not be everyone's cup of tea, my family really enjoyed it! It is available in theaters and on demand now. Find out more and connect below:

And one lucky reader is going to win a screener copy for themselves (sent via iTunes or physical copy). Enter to win using the Rafflecopter form below:

Each household is only eligible to win Unleashed via blog reviews and giveaways. Only one entrant per mailing address per giveaway. If you have won the same prize on another blog, you will not be eligible to win it again. Winner is subject to eligibility verification.

'God's Crime Scene for Kids' Mystery Investigation Kit Giveaway {Ends TODAY}

**Book received for consideration. All thoughts are 100% my own.

Let's be honest, most of us experience doubt in our life at one point or another. We doubt someone is telling the truth. We doubt our own abilities. And sometimes, just sometimes we might just find ourselves doubting God too. Even in the Bible we read about Thomas needing proof about Jesus. Even the disciples had their doubts. So, it's only natural that they might pop up on occasion. Especially for kids who are just really learning and exploring the world around them.

It would be easy enough to just tell kids over and over, it's true because the Bible says so... and you know, it might even be enough for some. But for others--- for those like Thomas--- they need a little more. And that is just what God's Crime Scene for Kids gives them:

Wallace pin1

Hone your reasoning skills as you investigate evidence in the universe to determine the most reasonable cause for everything we see in creation.
In this companion to Cold-Case Christianity for Kids, Jason uncovers a mystery in his grandmother's attic. He and his friends, Hannah, Daniel and Jasmine, enlist the help of Detective Jeffries at the Jr. Detective's Academy. Along the way, they develop the skills needed to investigate the mystery and the evidence of God's existence. The cadets learn logical-thinking skills as they examine the contents of a mysterious box and the vast universe.
In God's Crime Scene for Kids, real-life detective J. Warner Wallace shows kids ages 8 to 12 what skills are needed to solve Jason's mystery, and at the same time looks at evidence in the universe that demonstrates God is the creator. Ultimately, kids will learn how to make their own case for God's existence.
To be entirely honest, I expected this book to read more like a nonfiction... similar in style to Lee Strobel's work, "The Case for Christ"... a scientific/fact based look at the evidence in that Christ lived. A nonfiction style that *I* personally love, but wasn't sure how my son would take to. This one however reads as somewhat of a combination of fiction and nonfiction. It is a story about Jason and his friends discovering the mystery and evidence of God's existence, BUT it uses real facts and real evidence along the way.

I have always loved a good mystery, as does my son... so that story really drew him in more than a plain ol' nonfiction might have. But they're still learning! It's also interactive. Throughout there are CSI assignments that encourage kids to pick up the Bibles and read straight from the source. There are also detective tips and definitions throughout. This book truly encourages kids to discover the evidence for themselves too, not just take their word for it. I love this. By using these tools, kids can build an even stronger foundation in their faith that they can confidently defend... more than just saying 'because the Bible...'.
Whether you have a kid who loves facts, science and mystery or a child who is questioning their faith, this book is a great addition to your home library. Learn more and purchase a copy here.
And there's a giveaway too...

In His Image: Created To Create {Thoughts on Creative Worship & A Look Inside Illustrated Faith's Created To Create 2} #IllustratedFaith #IF_Created2Create2

**Kit received as part of Illustrated Faith's Launch Team. Post contains affiliate links. All thoughts are 100% my own.

Last week, we had the opportunity to experience something rather spectacular... the solar eclipse. Chances are on August 21, your news-feed was as filled as mine with chatter about the event. There were warnings on how not to watch, excitement and anticipation, perhaps even some fear and of course, the photos! Regardless of our political affiliations, our parenting styles, our religions, we all seemed to joining together in a sense of awe at what we were witnessing above. While I was unable to watch the eclipse for myself, I loved seeing the beauty in the photographs. Seeing them, I was reminded of a favorite worship song from my high school days- Chris Tomlin's Indescribable:

Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night
None can fathomIndescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name
You are amazing God
What an amazing reminder of the beauty that God has created! If ever you needed proof that our God is the ultimate artist, you could find it right there in the sky during that eclipse.

I think sometimes when we think about God, we forget to think of him like that... as an artist. But the first verse in Bible says it very clearly, "In the beginning, God CREATED."

I don't know about you, but in a book that holds such importance, those first words cannot have been selected by chance. They were written because they were important. That was how the story began. So then is it any wonder that so many of us find our time with God in our time of creating?

  • We find peace as our pens hit the paper to write.
  • We find joy as we photograph the beauty of His creation.
  • We find comfort as we play music.
  • We find our act of service as we sew or crochet for others.
  • We find our personal connection to God as we create.

Maybe, just maybe this is why so many of us have found Bible journaling to be such a powerful form of worship. We are doing just what we were created to do. God created us in His image, we were created to create.

It doesn't matter if we're the greatest of painters or if we fumble over a paintbrush. It doesn't  matter if we can draw the most stunning of landscapes or can barely draw a stick figure. It doesn't matter if you have all of the fanciest art supplies in the world or some simple colored pencils. When we focus our minds on God, He can use our time of creation to draw us closer to Him. As we read, as we journal, we find ourselves laying it all down as we create. We find ourselves digging deeper into the word. We find ourselves spending more time in prayer as we work. THIS is what Bible journaling is about. It's not about being the best or having pinworthy photos, it's simply about being with God. It's about being Created to Create.

September's new Illustrated Faith monthly devotional kit- Created to Create 2- celebrates just that. Take a look:

In the September Illustrated Faith devotional kit, Created to Create #2, Shanna invites you on a four week journey of discovering more and more of who you are in Jesus—unique and special, with a God-sized plan designed especially for you. "Today I ask that you put down all the "I can'ts" and pick up the "I cans!" Maybe you are creative in how you put colors together, or how you see the world, whatever it may be—creativity is inside of you!" —Shanna

1 clear stamp collection
1 roll of washi tape
1 thank you card from Shanna
1 package of paper pieces (22 pieces)
2 sheets of translucent stickers
3 heart-shaped tip-ins
4 devotional cards
4 journaling cards

For those who have been watching these kits from Day 1, you might remember that the original Created to Create Kit was the very first one. It's also one of the only that I personally had never been able to grab for myself- having sold out rather quickly! But what a wonderful message it was- I was thrilled to hear that they were coming out with this new one! The theme may be the same, but it's a whole new kit with the new format so you can still enjoy if you already have the original too. I loved the stunning designs that really celebrated the art of creating. The colors are bright and beautiful, and I'm still loving this new format too!

The Created to Create 2 Kit is available to purchase now! Use code IFSHIPSFREE for free shipping on your order!

Moms, Save Money on Kids Clothes at Target with Groupon Coupons!

**This is a sponsored post. All thoughts are 100% my own.

Faster than fast, quicker than quick. *sigh*. No, I'm not talking race cars, but kids clothes. More importantly, how quickly the kids outgrow them! And let me tell you--- it's faster than Lightning McQueen any day!

This morning as I was helping my son get ready for school I discovered he'd outgrown yet another pair of pants! What!? That's 3 sizes in a YEAR! How does that even happen!? And yet, as all moms can tell you...it does. Many are the outfits that were worn once before they were outgrown, or the ones that we thought we'd save for a special occasion that never arrived in time.

Normally that would be my cue to head to a thrift store or the yard sales... and while I still do that I have discovered that it's become increasingly more difficult to find secondhand clothes that are in good shape in my sons sizes. Maybe it's just that boys are rough on things, or maybe it's just in our area, but whatever it is...it's tough. Still, if we're going to be going through three sizes in a year, paying full price is not an option! So... what's a mama to do!?

Thankfully, Groupon Coupons can save the day... or at least the bank account!

We all probably know Groupon for their fabulous deals on restaurants, spas, etc... but what is Groupon Coupons? Groupon Coupons is yet another way that they are helping us all save money- with over 60,000 coupons to over 9,000 stores! Wow!

Among those stores is one of my personal favorites- Target!

I have to tell you, when it comes to kids clothes, Target is a great place to go! The styles are adorable, the quality is good, and the prices are fantastic on their own. But with Groupon Coupons? I can find even better deals! Here are a few Target deals I found to help me in my quest for new clothes for my son:

  • 10% Off Back To School
  • 25% Off School Uniforms with Code UNIFORMS
  • 15% Off & Free Shipping with a College Registry
...just to name a few! I love that I can take a peek at all of these great deals going on at Target now in one central place! But it's not JUST Target. I can find deals from other great stores like Aeropostale, Foot Locker, JCPenny and more!

Moms, kids grow fast... don't overpay! Before you shop, head on over to Groupon Coupons to find all the coupons you need to get the very best price! After all, you'll just be doing it all over again in a few months anyway.

Do you use Groupon Coupons? How does it help you save on kids clothes and more? Take a look around and let me know your favorite deal!

Tips and Tricks for A Great School Picture #backtoschool

The sneeze caught on camera. The haircut gone bad. The tee that blends right in with the background giving you a floating head look.

Oooh, the dreaded bad school picture!

We've all had at least one, right? It's a common occurrence it seems and one that is the topic of many a kids'/family tv show! We cannot always avoid the pimples or the silly faces that kids will inevitable make as the camera snaps, but there are some school picture mishaps we CAN avoid! Today, I'm sharing my tips- as a photography enthusiast- on planning for a great back to school photo!

Designed by Freepik

Choose your background wisely.

At some schools, you may not have much choice when it comes to the background, perhaps a simple color or two to choose from. Others you are given too many to name- multiple color options, fall scenes, starry scenes... you name it! But for me personally, I think simple is better! First and foremost, this is a photo of your child, and a simple background is going to ensure that they are the focus! A fancy background may seem like a good idea at the time, but makes it more difficult to plan outfits and if you plan to display your school year progressions together, you'll want to keep a similar looks throughout! I personally always choose a simple grey or blue- it suits my child's skin tone, coordinates with everything and doesn't detract from your adorable child!

The night before picture day is NOT the best day for a new hairstyle.

We've all seen those bad haircut school photos, right? If you're planning a new hairstyle for your little one, it's always best to try it BEFORE picture day, not the night before. For haircuts, give it a week or two if you can. Not only will this keep you from having a hair disaster right before the big day, but we want our children to look like THEM, so a huge change before pictures might not be the best idea anyway!

Pack a 'clean' lunch!

Typically, my son has always had lunch after pictures, but just in case... it's probably not the best day to pack your leftover spaghetti in the thermos! Or a pb&j, heavy on the j! Be mindful of the mess when you're packing your little one's lunch on picture day!

Plan your outfit in advance.

Just like you need to choose your background wisely, you need to plan your outfit wisely too! Choose colors that look great on your child, and that will work nicely with your background. Have everything laid out and ready beforehand so that you are not rushing at the last minute to find the finishing touches...and so that if you're running late that morning, it's already ready to go!

Be mindful of t-shirts/designs.

Personally, I prefer not to go with t-shirts at all for photos, BUT if that's all your child wears then go with it... but be mindful of the designs. You don't want to choose something with a phrase that will be cut off mid-statement, likewise with a graphic. When it comes to tees, I personally once again find that simple is best.

Let your child show off their own style.

Sure, a photo of your child dressed to the nines might be absolutely adorable...but if your kid is a jeans and t-shirt kinda kid, it's not really going to look like THEM. So, give them some say in what they wear! It's fine to make it a dressier version of their everyday style of course, but make sure it's still them. For the kid who loves to wear a t-shirt, again, simple designs and layering can be great ways to turn their everyday style with a little more excitement for picture day! My son happens to love button ups so we like finding bright colors and fun prints that look great on him. They are great on their own, layered or even with our favorite fashion accessories like suspenders or bow ties! When it comes to boys, you cannot go wrong with a great button up.

Remember, it's only a picture!

At the end of the day, even or most careful planning cannot keep our kids from making a silly face...so remember, if it doesn't turn out perfectly, it is just a photo! All those silly faces, unfortunate haircuts or style choices will just be something we can look back upon and laugh!

Be Still {Finding Organization in the Back To Busy Season + Planner Supplies from Dayspring} #Dayspring

**Products received for consideration. Post contains affiliate links. All thoughts are 100% my own.
Be Still.

We all know these words from the Bible, right? Perhaps we even repeat them in our head on those particularly rough days. But let's be honest, for moms with little ones the idea of being still can seem like a far off fantasy. With back to school season, we find ourselves in an endless sea of extracurricular activities, homework, and more... gone are those lazy days of summer! Back to busy we go!

How- in the midst of it all- are we to be still? How are we supposed to maintain a schedule that keeps our household running smoothly and allows us that time to just BE? Today, I'm sharing a few tips:

  • It's okay to say no. I don't know if it's this social media age we live in or just a general keeping up with the Joneses kind of attitude that's been around for years, but it seems as though among mothers there is this competition. How much can you fit into the day? How many organizations can we volunteer for? How busy can you stay? Sometimes we're made to feel as though if we're not doing it ALL, we're doing our children an injustice. We're made to feel like we're just not a good mom. Perhaps that's something we put upon ourselves, but it's a very real feeling nonetheless. A feeling that can push us to filling our schedules to the point of overflowing. That's not good for anyone! We end up stressed, our kids end up stressed and we have absolutely no time to recoup. So, learn to say no to some things. Pick the activities your children love the most, and let the others take a backseat. If there is an organization or area where you love to be involved, choose that one or two to focus on, say no to the rest. It can be hard for us people pleasers- but in the end we have to find balance and sanity for ourselves and our families. Life can get busy enough just with the things we HAVE to do, we don't need to add onto it!
  • Make Time For God. Isn't it amazing how even just a little time with God can truly help you get through the rest of the day. Often times when we pack our days so full that we don't have room to breathe, we also find that we don't have time for God. I think if we were being honest with ourselves, we've all had this moments in our life. If you want to keep your home running smoothly and everything on the best track possible, we NEED that time. For some, that might mean waking up earlier to have devotional and prayer time before the day begins, for others it's ending their night that way. But even on the busiest days, there are always ways to find time. While you're cleaning, turn on the praise music and worship while you work. Pray throughout the day. Read your Bible, even if just a few verses, as you can. That little bit of time can make a world of difference. Our schedules might not be any lighter, but our burdens can be.
  • Write It All Down. My son says I have the memory of Dory. Sadly, he's not wrong and it would truly be laughable if it weren't such an issue. Needless to say, I've become a big fan of lists! Lists, lists...everywhere and for everything. I would truly be 100% lost without my planner. As things come in, I have to write them down- bills due, pay days, projects due, school events, church events... they all go into the planner! Being a visual personal, this helps me to see exactly what I have coming up at a glance! The reality is we can't completely cut everything out of our schedules, and chances are we are still going to be busy much of the time, but by writing it all down, we can at least keep everything under control.
Aside from being practical, keeping a planner can also be fun too with Planner Supplies from Dayspring!  From memo pads that go straight in the planner, clips to keep you in place and stickers and washi to decorate and remind you of important dates at a glace, they have you covered. Here are a few of my personal favorites:

Being a visual personal, I have found that by keeping my planner fun to look at, it helps me stay right on track! Could I use simple post its and a plain ol' notebook and clips? Sure, but I'd grow bored with it before long and it'd be harder to keep up for me! Aside from being cute though, these supplies are incredibly practical. Post its right in my planner!? Yes, please! And with their Christian messages, they also serve as a great reminder to keep God in our daily lives too. You can find all of these planner supplies, and more to keep you focused on God during this busy season from Dayspring.

By saying no where you can, keeping time for God and keeping an organized planner to keep you motivated, you will have all the tools you need to conquer this back to busy season with your sanity in tact. You might even find those moments to be still in the midst of it all!

Get Back To School... Without Losing Your Sanity {A Mom's Guide To Stay Organized for Back To School with STEMSFX}

**Product received for consideration. All thoughts are 100% my own.

Has your little one gone back to school yet? My son has been back at school for 4 weeks now, and already I feel like I'm drowning in paperwork and newsletters! It's amazing how quickly that adds up. Add in homeschooling my preschooler... well, I'm finding myself starting to lose track of EVERYTHING!

When we think of back to school, we think about the supplies the kids need to start school off right, but what about us as parents? How can we keep track of all of our kids school needs- be it public school or homeschool without losing our sanity? Today, I'm sharing a few tips:

  • Invest in Folders to Organize. Again, this is something we think about for kids or teachers, but I've come to the realization that my system of just stacking up papers as they come in... well, it's just not practical! Find some good quality folders (like these) to help keep everything in its place. If typical folders won't do the job, consider zipper poly pouches (these are great for handbooks, smaller paper projects, etc.) or poly envelopes.
  • Don't Keep Everything. I must admit, when it comes to my kids I have to resist the urge to keep every little bit of homework and artwork they create. I have very quickly realized that this is NOT a good plan when it comes to staying organized and not getting buried in paper. So, throw some of it out. Keep the most important ones, but don't worry about keeping them all. Also, if newsletters are no longer relevant (all events have passed, etc), toss those out too.
  • Color Code It. There's nothing like trying to find that field trip permission slip and having to sort through homework, newsletters and more to get to it, right? So, give everything it's own category depending on your personal needs. Have a folder for homework, a folder for newsletters, a folder for important documents (students handbooks, etc). Have a special needs child? Keep a folder of all IEP revisions and meeting updates. Keep a folder with progress reports. If you have it sorted by type, it'll be much easier to find what you need. This works for homeschooling parents too- assign each subject and color and sort accordingly!
  • Write Down the Important Stuff. Aside from keeping papers organized, write down the important dates as they come in. I highly suggest keeping a planner. Still keep those slips of paper until events have passed (in case you write them down incorrectly), but having them centrally located is a HUGE help!
I'll admit, I'm the MOST absent minded person I know and forget things faster than Dory... but I've found having the proper supplies and a good system has been a huge help for me in staying organized in this back to school season.
