Letting Go of Shame: An Unashamed Book Review & Giveaway #un-ashamed #flyby

-embarrassed or guilty because of one's actions, characteristics, or associations.
"you should be ashamed of yourself"
synonyms: sorry, shamefaced, abashed, sheepish, guilty, contrite, remorseful, repentant, penitent, regretful, rueful, apologetic
-reluctant to do something through fear of embarrassment or humiliation.
"I'm ashamed to say I followed him home"
synonyms: sorry, shamefaced, abashed, sheepish, guilty, contrite, remorseful, repentant, penitent, regretful, rueful, apologetic

Let's be honest, we've all dealt with it, right?

Sometimes those moments of shame are small and rather insignificant in the big picture. Maybe it was breaking your diet and eating an extra cookie. These types of situations may give us a brief moment of shame, but we tend to move on from them rather easily.

But those bigger moments of shame? Those are a lot harder to move past. Maybe there was a mistake you made in your past. Maybe you hurt someone or were hurt yourself. Maybe you made choices that you know were not pleasing to God.

Personally, I understand this feeling all too well. Perhaps that's in part because of my social anxiety, I tend to dwell on things far longer than I should that may not even matter to anyone but myself. But I think it's also just human nature. We hang on to things and have a hard time letting go.

Still, as Christians, we know that when we accept Christ as our savior, our past sins are forgiven. We know that His love is big enough to cover every bit of shame...so why do we have so much trouble letting go of it ourselves? Why do we let it continue to weight us down and steal our joy? Why can't we just let it go?

Today I'm excited to share with you a new book by Heather Davis Nelson that can help us begin to learn to do just that, Unashamed:

Shame is everywhere.

Whether it's related to relationships, body image, work difficulties, or a secret sin, we all experience shame at some point in our lives. While shame can manifest itself in different ways—fear, regret, and anger—it ultimately points us to our most fundamental need as human beings: redemption.

Shame never disappears in solitude, and Heather Davis Nelson invites us to not only be healed of our own shame but also be a part of healing for others. She shines the life-giving light of the gospel on the things that leave us feeling worthless and rejected, giving us courage us to walk out of shame’s shadows and offering hope for our bondage to brokenness. Through the gospel, we discover the only real and lasting antidote to shame: exchanging our shame for the righteousness of Christ alongside others on this same journey.

As I said, we all fall victim to shame in some form or another so I found this book to truly be a great read for everyone. It's not going to be the magical cure all. You won't read it and instantly be rid of your shame- if only it were that easy! BUT, it will help you to take a look at the shame that you feel and give you the tools and the scriptures that through time and prayer can help you work through it, one day at a time.

Unashamed is available to purchase now at your favorite Christian book retailers.

Would a Worm Go On a Walk? Teaching Kids About God's Creations {A Book Review & Giveaway} #WormOnAWalk #Flyby

Would a worm go on a walk?

That seems like a silly question, right? Of course a worm wouldn't go on a walk...they have no legs! But this is just the type of silly questions that the new children's book of the same title asks us about all kinds of animals. Take a look:

About the book:
“Would a worm go on a walk, if you could lead him down the street? / Would he wear his tiny tennies, if he had two worm-sized feet?”
So begins this humorous and imaginative picture book that introduces children to the idea that animals are uniquely created by a loving and wise God. Would a Worm Go on a Walk?, with its colorful, comical illustrations, is a fresh, fun way to teach young children that God created all things very good. He gave all the animals, and children, too, wonderful qualities and unique strengths. Children will giggle over the ridiculous scenarios presented, and they will come away with the knowledge that we all are loved and special.
Format: Jacketed hardcover
Page count: 32
Reading age: 4-7

About the author:
Hannah C. Hall is the author of best-selling children’s books, including God Bless You and Good Night and God Bless Our Christmas, as well as an award-winning blog, HannahCHall.com. Hannah lives in Prairie Grove, AK with her husband, Josh, a worship pastor, and their four children.

This story truly is so much fun! Immediately, my kids were drawn in by the funny rhymes and the silly illustrations.... especially my almost 3-year-old daughter! With every page, we found a new silly question about God's creations. Worms wearing tennis shoes? Pigs playing piano? Or my daughter's personal favorite- ladybugs wearing lipstick!? We could not help but laugh at the silliness! But when we got to the end, we saw that it wasn't just silliness, but it was a fantastic lesson too. We learned that these animals might not do these silly things that are asked about in the book, but they do do many great things. They do just the things that God created them to do.

On the one hand, this is a cute little reminder that God created everything, period. But beyond that it really is a fantastic thing to remember...that despite all of the different abilities and talents that we were each given, that we were created just how God intended us to be. As a mom to a special needs child, I happen to think this is truly an amazing lesson to teach children. It is a FUN and silly way to start the conversation at a young age about how each of us are given different talents. Each of us are given different weaknesses. Each of us are made just a little bit different, but what we may lack in one area, we make up for in another. Worms may not be able to walk, but they were created by God with a purpose in mind...just like each and every one of us! What better lesson would we ask for?

This fun story has already become a favorite in my household. We've read it over and over again, and still find ourselves enjoying it each time! Definitely a must see for the Christian family! You can purchase your own copy here.

And one lucky reader is going to win a copy of their own! Enter using the Rafflecopter form below:

Lady Lullaby Music

Prize: Hardcopy CD of Road to Dreamland: Unexpected Lullabies for All Ages. Unique jazz-flavored bedtime lullabies for everyone from babies to grownups!
"Jazz singer Jane Roman Pitt's oh-so-lovely album's subtitle, "Unexpected Lullabies for All Ages," is apt. Among the tender, off-the-beaten-path lullaby choices here, are the Thad Jones classic, "A Child is Born," Neil Young's "Barefoot Floors," and this exquisite little art song hinting of magic and fairyland: "The Sleep That Flits (on baby's eyes)" (text by Rabindranath Tagoe, music by John Alden Carpenter). Pitt's original "Dance Like the Wind," is a smooth fit; other soothing, well-chosen tracks include "Over the Rainbow," "The Nearness of You," and "Summertime." The jazz arrangements and instrumentation here are A+, and the singer herself, who styles the songs with lilting vibrato and a soft vocal caress, is chief among the album's unexpected treats." Adventures In Babysitting: Available on DVD TODAY! {+ Activity Sheets}

**DVD received for review. All thoughts are my own.

When I was a kid at the baby-sitters house, there is one movie that we seemed to have watched every single day- Adventures in Babysitting! Now, I honestly don't know that we actually watched it every day or not, but we did watch it often enough that when I look back, it certainly seems to be the case. And honestly, I loved it. Sure, it was actually a bit scary at that age, but still such a fun story.

When I heard that Disney Channel was recreating this movie as the 100th DCOM, I was pretty excited to see how it would compare. Check it out:

Sofia Carson (Descendants) and Sabrina Carpenter (Girl Meets World) star in a hilarious, action-packed tale of two sitters inspired by the '80s classic! Sparks fly when free-spirited Lola and prim, proper Jenny learn they're up for the same internship. But that night, after newbie babysitter Lola breaks "Rule #1: NEVER take your eyes off the kids," she's forced to call Jenny - currently on her own gig - to help track down Trey, who has snuck out. Now with all their young charges in tow, these rivals must team up and brave the big city on the wildest, wackiest adventure of their lives!.

Now, maybe despite the excitement, you're also thinking to yourself that the original wasn't exactly Disney friendly. Honestly, I thought the same myself (and when I rewatched the original on Netflix, I realized even more so how inappropriate it actually was and I'd never realized). So, as you can imagine, this one is a lot different and certainly more Disney friendly. For some, this might not be a good thing, but for me, I actually really loved that. After rewatching, I'm not certain I'd feel comfortable as much with my kids watching the original at their ages, BUT the new one has all of the fun and excitement of that, but in a much cleaner package. It's such a fun way to share a little piece of my own childhood with my children too.

Like I said, there are certainly some differences. It's a bit lighter, a bit younger... but the action and the adventure are still right there. In fact, you might see a few scenes that truly are updated versions from the classic! One of the scenes that I always remembered most from the original was the scene where they are on stage singing the blues. Now, there are no blues in this one... but there is a pretty epic performance. This one is in the form of a more modern rap battle between the two baby-sitters. Admittedly, I'm not a rap fan at all, but I have to say this was probably my favorite scene because it was most definitely a clear throwback to that beloved scene! Check it out:

Overall, I really loved this one, and as a DCOM fan, I must say it makes for a pretty great 100th! It premiered on Disney Channel last Friday, so check your TV provider for encore showings. Don't have Disney Channel, or want to watch whenever you want? Adventures in Babysitting is available for purchase TODAY, June 28!!

Dive Into Summer with National Geographic Kids & Finding Dory {An Oceans Book & Dory Plush Giveaway} #FindingDory

**Product received for review. All thoughts are 100% my own.

Just Keep Swimming! Just keep swimming!

If your little ones are anything like mine, chances are they have fallen hard for the Finding Dory craze!! And what's not to fall for, right? I remember watching the first movie and instantly falling in love with these fun characters- especially Dory whose memory is even worse than my own awful memory. When we heard that there was to be a sequel, we were pretty excited! We haven't had the chance to see Finding Dory just yet, but we've only heard good things.

With the excitement of the movie in the air, what better time is there than to use it as an educational moment! Just because school is out, doesn't mean the learning has to end! And when you draw them in with these characters they already know and love, it's not even a chore! It's just fun!

National Geographic books truly are ideal for this! So, we were excited to hear about two great new books that are just perfect for summer fun- with water and Dory on our minds! Check them out:

Ocean Animals: Who's Who in the Deep Blue ($12.99, ages 8-12) is an oversized book and it needs to be!  Featuring huge, stunning underwater photographs this book covers it all -- from life in coral reefs to sharks and rays, to bizarre creatures of the deep and even sea birds -- and all the favorites from Finding Dory including, sea lions, octopus, beluga whales, whale sharks and of course clown fish and Dory herself -- blue tangs!

Ocean Animals Sticker Activity Book (ages 4-8, $6.99) has over 1,000 cool stickers of the most popular, adorable, ferocious and weird ocean animals, like dolphins, coral, fish, sea turtles, seals and more. Also included are skill-building puzzles and mazes, spelling and pattern games, drawing, photos, facts, and other activities that will keep kids you entertained (and learning) for hours on end. Perfect for road trips and plane rides!

Now, when I first showed my children these books, of course the first thing they both (at 2 and 8 years old) noticed was Dory! The real life Dory (blue tang) was right on the cover of both books! They were instantly drawn in! For my son, the Ocean Animals: Who's Who in the Deep Blue was the favorite. He loved learning more about the real life animals that inspired his favorite characters from Finding Nemo, but more than any of those he loved learning about the sharks. He has recently fallen in love with them and couldn't wait to learn more! This book truly is packed full of interesting facts, but it's full of colorful pictures and designed in such a way that kids truly don't feel like they are learning!

For some more interactive fun, Ocean Animals Sticker Activity Book is ideal. My daughter was instantly drawn to this one. While she is not quite old enough to truly enjoy everything this book has to offer, she love looking at all the fun stickers! But for my son, this again is another fun way to make learning fun! It is packed full with fun activities like mazes and connect the dots and color by numbers. Mixed in with all the fun activities are more fun facts too! It's the perfect companion to the Who's Who book, but is perfect as a stand alone as well. Heading on a trip to Sea World or your local aquarium? This is the perfect way to keep the kids occupied along the drive!

Sofia the First The Secret Library: Now Available on DVD {+Activity Sheets}

**DVD received for review! All thoughts are my own!

In this household, we are all about princesses! Perhaps you figured it out from the name of this blog, or maybe you've been around awhile and figured it out that way... but it's absolutely true! I have always loved them myself, and that is a love that I passed onto my daughter.

Naturally, being a fan of princess- and especially Disney princesses- Sofia the First is always a huge hit in our home!!! So, when I heard of the new DVD out earlier this month- Sofia the First The Secret Library, I knew we had to add it to our collection:

Knowledge Is The Key To Everything! Unlock the next magical chapter of "Sofia The First!" When Sofia discovers a wondrous hidden library of unfinished books, she learns it is her destiny as "Story Keeper" to make the tales come out right. Fly along on her brave quest to rescue Minimus' brother. It seems impossible - until Princess Merida offers some spirited advice! Then, journey to Freezenberg, where Miss Nettle has snatched all the snowdrop flowers in the kingdom. Can warm hugs from Olaf inspire Sofia to save the day? Bursting with fun, "Sofia The First: The Secret Library" proves that when you believe in yourself, you can create your own happy ending!.

Like I said, we were already big Sofia fans in our home, but this one might just be our favorite yet! Why's that you ask? It could be the fun stories, of course! It truly is a great one...and like all Sofia episodes truly teaches little girls powerful lessons and shows them what it really means to be a good princess. But let's be honest, for my daughter this one was all about the guest princesses! Now, for those who may not be as familiar with the show, on occasion, when Sofia needs some help some of our favorite Disney princesses are brought in to help teach those lessons mentioned before. We've seen Jasmine, we've seen Belle, we've seen Mulan. These episodes are always my daughter's favorites- she loves seeing those other familiar characters in a whole new setting! The most recent princess my daughter was introduced to was Merida from Brave, and she quickly became a huge fan! So, when she saw her in the first part of the DVD, she was thrilled! But the excitement grew even more when the next special guest arrived- and wasn't a princess at all! It was none other than Frozen's Olaf!!! My daughter like so many girls of all ages is certainly Frozen obsessed so this made her day! Her favorite show and her favorite movie, all rolled into one! This is certain to be one that every Sofia and Frozen fan is sure to love and watch over and over again!
Sofia the First The Secret Library is available to purchase now.

Anchored in God {An Anchored Press Planner Review & Giveaway} #AnchoredInGod

Can I make a confession?

I have the worst memory.

Oh, I know a lot of people say this, but it's 100% true. If I don't write things down I'm constantly forgetting them. I've often joked that I need to invest in mass supply of post its so that I can keep myself on track. I walk into a room and I forget what I was looking for. I put clothes in the dryer and forget to turn it on. I forget to pay a bill... or pay the same bill twice! Lately, this has become even more true. I have to have my lists and my calender's or I am completely lost.

Needless to say, I am always on the hunt for great planners. I've explored several over the last few years, and have even really liked some of them. But today I have to share with you my new favorite: the Anchored Press Planner.

This planner doesn't just help you plan your day... it helps you to remember where to focus your thoughts. It helps to plan for your family, but also to grow spiritually and document it all. The owner Deana created this planner to help women get anchored in God’s word and stay organized.  You can read more about her and the company here:http://www.anchoredpress.com/pages/about
Take a look at what you can expect to find inside:

  • Daily pages + combined weekend pages
  • Daily page includes: an hourly scheduler (6am-8pm), top 4 to-do list, dinner plan & a place to meet with God everyday
  • Daily Bible verses & inspired devotions
  • Mid-week prayer over your children
  • A weekly spot to thank God for your blessings
  • Monthly designated page for prayer requests
  • Family goal planning page
  • Family memory making prompts
  • Family go-to dinner page
  • 2016 yearly calendar and holiday pages
  • 12 two-page monthly views

This planner is seriously amazing! First and foremost, just taking a look at the cover! The gorgeous design is just my style- pink, navy and gold...a favorite color scheme of mine. And I love the nautical look too. When I first opened it up, the pages immediately fell to a line from my favorite song- Oceans (Where Feet May Fail). I had not yet even seen the actual planner pages, but I was already in love. The planner pages themselves, also fantastic! They truly thought of everything! I personally need a monthly overview AND a more in depth weekly view. I like to be able too see things at a glance, then flip to that particular day and get the specifics. This is just what Anchored Press offers. I have my monthly overview and to do list for that month. Then each day has its own page with a detailed schedule from 6am to 8 pm to you not only know WHAT you have planned but when that is too. You're then given a spot for your top 4 priorities list so that you can easily see your important to dos for that specific day- maybe its calling someone or paying a bill. You'll also find a spot to share what you're having for dinner that night, again keeping you organized and on track! That covers your day to day plans, but the 'other stuff' is what really sets this planner apart. Each day you are given a Bible verse and brief devotion to read, and a space to list your prays or reflections for the day. So often with our busy daily schedules it can be easy to forget the importance of reading scriptures or prayer, and this planner helps us to keep that in focus!

Ready to start being better organized and strengthening your relationship with God. The 2016 planners are currently 40% off- an amazing deal with 7 months left to enjoy them! Check them out at the links below:

Refresh Your Summer Pantry & Stay Hydrated with BODYARMOR {+ Coupon} #ad

**A huge thank you to BODYARMOR for sponsoring today's post. All thoughts are my own.

Hello, Summer!

Summer is here and the kids are out of school, which as a mom means we have to be prepared for anything summer throws at us! When you have a growing boy in your home, that means you need a fully stocked pantry! Stocking a pantry fit for a child should be pretty easy! I mean, kids are pretty opinionated about all the treats they want and love at the grocery store, right? But we want our kids to be strong and healthy...so there truly is no better time than summertime to make over the pantry to give kids those nutritious (but still delicious) options to keep them energized and healthy throughout the summer heat.

Instead of potato chips, we can stock up on nuts, veggie chips...or even a healthier baked chip if still desired. Rather than candy and sugary treats, we can stock up on fresh fruits like grapes, apples, watermelon. Even dried fruit can make an excellent alternative. Raisins, yogurts, fresh veggies...the healthy snack options are endless...and with a little imagination can be just as fun as those not-so-good for them treats too.

But perhaps the most important part of keeping kids healthy during the summer is keeping them well hydrated! Now, while my kids actually do enjoy and drink water with no problems, there are times when they just want something with a little more flavor. So, how can we give kids the flavor they crave while still making sure to avoid sugary drinks and helping in hydration?

BODYARMOR to the rescue!

So, what is BODYARMOR?

·       BODYARMOR is a premium sports drink with more potassium packed electrolytes, coconut water and vitamins. BODYARMOR has natural flavors, natural sweeteners and no artificial colors, unlike traditional sports drinks. It’s a GREAT choice for young athletes especially, who don’t need all the extra sodium in their diets or the artificial ingredients that come from drinking other sports drinks on the market.

·       BODYARMOR comes in 8-great tasting flavors: fruit punch, orange mango, strawberry banana, tropical punch, lemon lime, mixed berry, grape and blackout berry.

·       Many of today’s top athletes choose BODYARMOR as their sports drink of choice, including: Mike Trout, Andrew Luck, James Harden, Buster Posey, Richard Sherman, Dez Bryant, Skylar Diggins and Sydney LeRoux

A sports drink that helps kids stay hydrated but is more natural and better for them? Sounds pretty amazing, right? But I know you're probably all wondering...how does it taste?

The answer is simply-delicious! I'll be honest, typically speaking, I don't drink sports drinks. I've just never been a huge fan of the flavor. But I decided to try a little sip of my son's BODYARMOR and I was pleasantly surprised. I tried the Orange Mango. It didn't taste like a flavored drinks as other sports drinks I'd tried in the past...I could instead tell that the flavors were the real deal! Delicious!

But more importantly, the kids love them too. We have spent the last few days a camp, and let me tell you it is HOT. 90 plus degrees and we are outside from 8 am to 4 pm. In this extreme heat, staying hydrated could not be more important. BODYARMOR has been a lifesaver! Both of my kids have been enjoying the great flavors! They've not yet tried one they didn't love. But for me, I'm loving that I know they are staying hydrated well without the added sugar, dyes and artificial flavors of other sports drinks!

From summer to camp to sports to zoo trips...even playing in our own backyard, BODYARMOR is the perfect addition to our pantry for keeping my kids healthy and hydrated all summer long.

Moms, Say YES to Gerber Lil' Beanies: The Perfect Toddler Snack #GerberWinWin #ad

Shopping with a Toddler.

If you read these words and feel an instant sense of dread...you might be a toddler mom!

Before children, I used to love going to the store. I would browse for hours, just killing time. But after kids? Forget it! You want to get in, get done, and get out! And when you do so successfully, you feel like you deserve a cape, because surely this is a feat that only a Super Mom can pull off, am I right?

Typically, my kids are pretty good kids, not greedy in the least... but as soon as we step into the store, it's like they've been bit by the 'I want it' bug!

"Mommy, I want a toy!"
"Mommy, I want chocolate!"
"Mommy, I want candy!"
"Mommy, I want chips!"

Surely, this isn't just MY kids right? I mean I get it, inside my head as I'm walking through my Target store, I'm seeing a whole lot of wants myself. Kids just verbalize what we're all thinking! I cannot tell you how many times in one shopping trip I find myself saying NO! I don't always want to be that 'No Mom', but I also don't want to give into my children's every whim and every craving for not so good for them foods.

So, when we were looking through the baby section at our local Target store, I was thrilled to stumble upon a snack that I could actually feel GOOD about saying yes to, Gerber® Lil’ Beanies(TM)!

So, what makes Lil' Beanies (TM) a win/win choice for moms and kids alike?

For kids, it's all about the flavor and fun! At first glance, these look very much like a cheesy puff snack that kids are so often drawn to but that are often packed full on unpronounceable ingredients--- not an ideal healthy kids snack! But they don't just look appealing, they taste great too! The come in two delicious flavors: original and white cheddar & broccoli. My daughter could not stop going back for more of either!

Win #1: They look great and taste great so kids actually WANT to eat them and will ask for them again and again!

But for myself as a mom, it's also a snack that I can feel great about feeding my children too! Lil' Beanies (TM) is the first bean based snack in the baby aisle. It is made from the goodness of navy beans to deliver 2 grams of protein (9% Daily Value), 1 gram of fiber and 10% Daily Value of Vitamin E per serving. Gerber® Lil’ Beanies(TM) Snack is baked, not made with genetically engineered (GM) ingredients, and is naturally flavored!

Win # 2: They are a healthier, more natural alternative to other salty kids' snacks that I as a mom feel confident in feeding my children!

Gerber Lil' Beanies (TM) truly are a delicious, nutritious treat, your little ones will love it for its taste and you’ll love it for its nutrition. It's a win/win for everyone! Now, you can browse Target from open to close, and not feel like you're saying no to everything. Just walk through the baby aisle--- your kids will see the snack they love and think that they're the ones getting what they want when you finally say yes!

Go ahead mamas, spoil your kids with this win/win snack...and wear that cape proudly. You deserve it.

Need a fun snack for your little one? Check out the Original Lil' Beanies and White Cheddar & Broccoli, and come back and tell me which one YOUR little one would love!

Stubb’s Legendary Bar-B-Q Grilling Season Trends {A Recipe & Giveaway} #GrillingWithStubbs

**I have received coupons in consideration for this post. All thoughts are my own.

Summer has arrived, and for many of us, that means its time to break out the grill! Food has such a great way of bringing people together, so what better way to spend those beautiful summer days than with family and friends around the grill for a delicious meal!

Now, for some people when you think about the grill, its all about the burger...but for the grillmaster in my house- my husband, it's all about the smoke! Give him a smoker and some ribs and he's in heaven! But first, you have to find just the right sauce to get that perfect flavor!

In my household, Stubb's has become a go-to favorite. Stubb’s sauces, marinades and rubs are a great way to add flavor to all kinds of grilled meats and vegetables for holiday cookouts. Not only do they taste great and bring every recipe to the next level- they are also a food I can feel great about feeding my family! Stubb’s get its bold flavors from real ingredients, with no artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners. It contains no high fructose corn syrup, the No. 1 ingredient in most national BBQ sauce brands. Pretty amazing, right?

My husband isn't the only one that loves a good smoked meat! Americans are craving more and more heat, and smoking is the hottest new trend in backyard grilling. Check out this original recipe from Stubb's for a dish that combines the two in a can't be beat meal!!

Jezebel Ribs (A Stubb's Original Recipe)

2 tablespoons all-purpose seasoning salt
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon ground coriander
1 tablespoon ground mustard
1 tablespoon yellow mustard seed
1 tablespoon poultry seasoning
2 teaspoons paprika
1 cup Jezebel Sauce (see below; make half the recipe)
1/4 cup Stubb’s Original Wing Sauce, or equal parts Stubb’s Original Bar-B-Q Sauce and hot sauce
Two (2- to 3-pound) racks of baby back ribs
Cooking Instructions
In a small bowl, combine the seasoning salt, sugar, coriander, ground mustard, mustard seed, poultry seasoning, and paprika. In another bowl, combine the Jezebel Sauce and wing sauce and refrigerate until ready to use.
If your ribs have a membrane, pull it off from the underside of the ribs (Tip: Once you’ve loosened a corner of the membrane, grab it with a paper towel and pull; the paper towel keeps it from slipping out of your fingers. Removing the membrane makes ribs easier to eat and allows more spice and smoke flavor to penetrate the ribs.) Blot each rack of ribs with a paper towel to dry. Season the ribs on all sides with the spice rub mixture and pat it in with your fingers. Leave the ribs at room temperature for up to 1 hour if you’re planning to grill them soon. Or refrigerate them up to overnight, wrapped tightly in plastic wrap; bring them to room temperature before grilling.
Prepare a grill for indirect cooking. For a charcoal grill, when the coals are ashed over, rake or spread them out in one part of the grill so the food can cook to the side and not directly over the coals. (For a gas grill, fire up the burners on one part of the grill, so the food can cook to the side of the heat but not directly over it.) Cover the grill and bring it to between 250 and 275 degrees F.
Cook the ribs bone side down, over indirect heat, with the grill lid closed, for 1-1/2 to 2 hours, or until the meat just starts to shrink back from the ends of the bones. (Don’t overcook; meat should shrink back less than 1/4 inch.) To ensure even cooking, set an oven thermometer next to the ribs, also over indirect heat. During the last 30 minutes of cooking, baste the ribs with the sauce mixture every 10 minutes. Set the rib racks on a baking sheet and cover with foil; let them rest for 10 to 20 minutes, then slice and serve.
Jezebel Sauce
(makes 2 cups; use 1 cup for Wicked Jezebel Ribs above, and serve the rest with cream cheese and crackers)
1 cup pineapple preserves
2/3 cup apple jelly
5 tablespoons Creole mustard or whole-grain brown mustard
5 tablespoons prepared horseradish
In a small bowl, combine all ingredients; cover and chill. For best results let the flavors meld overnight. Jezebel Sauce will keep refrigerated at least 4 weeks

Backyard cooks can try ALL of 2016’s top Bar-B-Q trends with tips from national barbecue expert Rocky Stubblefield of Stubb’s Legendary Bar-B-Q. Let's see what he has to say about this Smoky Heat trend:
  • Get just the right amount of heat to suit your taste by mixing in your favorite hot sauce with Stubb’s Original or Sticky Sweet Bar-B-Q Sauce, then heat together in a pan, adding hot sauce to taste. Throw in a little finely chopped onion for some extra tang and texture.
  • For smoking meats on a charcoal grill, use hardwood chunks, or on a gas grill, use wood chips. Soak wood chunks in water for 1 hour, or chips for 30 minutes, then drain before using. Burn two wood chunks for each hour of smoking, and 1 cup of wood chips for an hour or less of smoking. Try a variety of wood – hickory, mesquite or applewood – to experiment with flavors.
This is just one of the hot trends this grilling season! More trends and recipes are available at www.stubbs.com or on Facebook at stubbsbbqsauce!

In celebration of grilling season and these fun grilling trends, Stubb's has put together an amazing giveaway! One lucky person will receive a prize pack including Branded grilling spatula, Stubb’s T-shirt, Stubb’s Apron, Stubb’s hat and (10) coupons for free products (approximate retail value or “ARV”: $100). My Mother's Quilts: Devotions of Love, Legacy, Family and Faith {A Review & Contest} #MyMothersQuilts #FlyBy

**Book received for review. All thoughts are my own.

Isn't it amazing how a quilt can tell a story? How it brings us back to a place in time or fills our hearts with memories of the one who took the time to make it? In my home, we have various quilts made by loved ones, and I love how when I'm looking at one of these or snuggled up inside I am instantly reminded of the love that went into each stitch.

In my son's room, he has a Thomas the Tank Engine quilt made for him by his Great Grandma. He sleeps with this quilt every night, and I know that even long after he has outgrown this Thomas phase (should that EVER happen), it will serve as a beautiful reminder of those years when Thomas was his world. Likewise my daughter has a princess quilt made in love by that same great grandmother. Just a few of the couple quilts made by her in our home that we love and use daily. Perhaps my favorite quilt in our home though is a stunning quilt made for my husband by HIS great grandmother. He has had it for many years and the edges have started to fray...and yet it remains a favorite. I never got to meet this grandmother, but I love having this little piece of my husband's family history in our home.

These quilts all tell stories of family love, but some quilts tell other stories. Maybe its made of baby clothes or the clothing of a loved one that has passed. One of the quilts that is beloved by my extended family is the very last quilt that my great grandmother made. Now, my great grandma was the ideal grandma--- she was always working on some type of quilting or crochet project and she was amazing at it. But this particular quilt shows a bittersweet story. It starts out looking much like her typical quilts- tight, perfect stitches... but as it continues on, those stitches become looser and less perfect. As her health declined, the stitches declined. While some might say that this quilt was imperfect compared to the ones that came before, I cannot help but think its beautiful. It may not be as perfect...but it serves as a beautiful, bittersweet reminder of her life and her final years, and her love throughout it all. It is those stories that make for the most beautiful quilts, not the perfect stitches.

Do you have stories like these for the quilts in your family? Perhaps you're a quilter stitching your own family memories. Today, I'm excited to share a book that I'm certain you will love, My Mother's Quilts by Ramona Richards:

A quilt is love that serves a purpose.

Inspired by thirty famiy heirloom quilts, each devotion depicts the enduring legacy of faith, family and tradition. Rich, personal, sometimes heartbreaking, often funny, each reading provides a lesson and encouragement from the faithful women who crafted the quilts.

Full-color photographs of each quilt show the style and artistry of each beautiful work. The quilts, sewn by several generations over more than one-hundred years, are as unique and lovely as the hands that created them. The oldest was buried during the Civil War to keep it safe and the author's mother created the newest in the last years of her life.
About the Author:

Ramona Richards is an award-winning editor, speaker, author of nine books, and a frequent contributor to devotional collections. An avid live music fan, Ramona loves Nashville, which she’s called home since she was ten. Sensing her mother was near the end of her life, Ramona documented her mother’s stories and lessons behind each family quilt. These stories form the devotions in My Mother’s Quilts. Find out more about Ramona and her books by visiting her online at ramonarichards.com.

Now, I'm not a quilter by any means. I've made one simple baby quilt for 4-H many years ago and that's about the extent of it. I don't know the names of various quilt styles or the first thing about creating one. I am just an admirer of their beauty and the stories behind them. This book made me fall even more in love with them. With each page I turned, I was drawn in by the beautiful photos, but more importantly the beautiful stories behind them. It is a reminder of the things in life that matter. When you pass along a quilt with such history, you're not just passing along a blanket--- you're passing down a legacy of love. A legacy of faith. A legacy of memories. Whether you're a quilter, a collector or just looking for some touching stories of family, this book of devotions is one to read! You can purchase your copy here.

To celebrate this beautiful book, there is an amazing contest! Check it out:
