Decorating the Nursery w/ Wall Decals from Wall Artsy {Review}

For me, one of the most fun things about preparing for a new baby is decorating the nursery! I absolutely LOVE decorating! So for today's Preparing for Baby Event review and giveaway, I am excited to share another wonderful Etsy shop Wall Artsy- a company that offers personalized vinyl wall decals! Wall Artsy sent me a decal from their shop for our nursery to try and share with all of you!

I let me little man choose which decal he'd like for baby sister's nursery. There are a ton of great options and all are custom made and available in a variety of color choices to match your decor. He chose the 'Once Upon a Time There Was a Beautiful Princess' decal...a great choice I must add. He wanted the baby pink, but Mommy opted that chocolate would pop more on our walls, so we went with it instead. Before I share our experience applying the decal, here is a little bit of information about the vinyl decals Wall Artsy has to offer:

Our decal arrived very quickly, carefully packaged in a sturdy cardboard tube, so as not to be damaged in shipping. Considering that custom made nature of the product, I was actually quite pleasantly surprised at just how quickly it got to us! In addition to the decal, we also received detailed instructions for application and an application tool. I was very thankful for the in depth instructions provided (which also recommended a video to watch), as I will honestly admit I was terrified of messing it up! But with the help of these instructions and a competent husband, it was actually super easy! I will not give you the full how-to process in this post, but here is our slightly abridged version:

After making sure our desired spot was clean and allowing the graphic to flatten from shipping, we then placed our graphic on the wall. We used painters tape and my husband marked each corner for easy placement back on the wall. The graphic conveniently included a level line (which of course doesn't transfer) to ensure that the graphic was being applied evenly. This was great for me, because I am horrible at judging this just by looking!! We went against the instructions just a bit at this point- where they suggest removing the backing while still taped to the wall- we found it easier to lay on the floor to remove and then reapply, carefully using our markings- to the wall. I'd say this removal of the backing paper is the trickiest part, but the key is definitely to go slow. We did have an 'a' that started to lift with the backing paper, but as per instructions lowered it back down, applied more pressure and it turned out just fine! We then lined it back up with our original markings and very carefully lowered back onto the wall. My husband then used the application tool included to apply pressure to the graphic to transfer to the wall. Finally, we removed the backing, again carefully making sure none of the graphic was still attached (we did not have any issues this time, but if we had, we'd simply have laid back down against the wall and applied more pressure, just as we did when removing the backing paper). And that was it! It was certainly more work than what a simple stick on wall decal would have been, but the look and quality is a million times better...it truly looks like it was painted on the wall...and will last longer too since little hands can't remove them easily as my little man likes too. But when we are ready to remove it, we can do so easily without damaging the walls. Like many military families, we rent as we're not in any place long enough to buy a home, so this is a big plus for us! And it looks absolutely beautiful:

Overall, I was completely thrilled with our experience with Wall Artsy! The designs are stunning, the vinyls are high quality and I love that we now have that custom painted look that as renters we could not have otherwise! If you're looking for a fun way to jazz up your walls a bit- Wall Artsy is definitely the place to go!!

Disclosure: I received the above mentioned product in exchange for review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

  1. As much as I would *love* a family decal, right now I just don't know where I would put it in this current home, so I would love the "Every Child is an Artist" vinyl. It would go perfectly in our children's reading corner, with their craft display board!
