Homeschooled for the Holidays by Kaci Lane: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

Doc Hollywood meets Pure Country when a country music star on the run breaks down in rural Alabama and spends Christmas at a homeschool family's chicken farm.

The last thing I expected to find after midnight was a stranger with a half-shaved head on my porch. Good thing I answered the door armed with a cast-iron skillet — and by use it, I don't just mean to make cornbread.

Turns out he's Tuff Avery, Nashville's biggest star, hiding from his own fame behind the worst DIY haircut in country music history. He wants to disappear into small-town Alabama for Christmas. I want someone to help polish my original songs for the church concert.

What's in it for me? Plenty — if he can survive my chicken farm, my overprotective brothers, and a small town where everybody knows everybody's business but nobody knows his name.

I've kept bigger secrets than this. Probably.

The Author

Kaci Lane is an Alabama girl whose mission in life is to write stories that relate to real-life issues with a bit of comic relief. While unsuccessfully trying to learn Spanish for a decade, she has become fluent in Sarcasm, Southern Belle and movie quotes. She is married to a true Southern gentleman and has two young children, all of which help keep her humility in check.

With a background and degree in journalism, Kaci has written almost everything about anything. Well, except for topics that would make any good Southern Baptist’s face turn the color of a Crimson Tide football jersey.

Book Review

There is just something about a Kaci Lane book that is truly so very enjoyable to read. Her stories are truly laugh out loud funny with characters who may be a slight bit over the top at times, but who you can't help but love. And while I may not be from the south, I grew up very much in the country (think one and half lane gravel roads, 10+ years in 4-H, and family members/friends that could probably fit some Jeff Foxworthy descriptions), and there's something about Kaci's characters/stories that feel very much like home to me... and I absolutely love them... and I especially love her Christmas books. This one was certainly no exception. Right from the very start, this one had me laughing... talk about a bad hair day! The laughs didn't stop there... Tuff and Mary Grace's story truly was a great blend of that humor and so much heart too! A country music star in hiding and holiday family shenanigans? What's not to love? I know I certainly did. If you're looking for a holiday read that will make you smile, check this one out.

Homeschooled for the Holidays is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. It is the fifth book in the Apple Cart Country Christmas series, and while you may see some familiar characters, I do believe this could be enjoyed as a standalone as well.
