Beautiful Promises by Heather Michelle: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

fate
/fāt/
what is meant to be, will be.
a cord that cannot be broken.

Makenna Taylor and Reid Landry are high school sweethearts. He was her first. Her only. They had life all planned out, right down to the white picket fence and 2.5 kids. Then Reid joined the Marines, and from that day forward, life as Makenna knew it would never be the same.
She thought she was just another girl with a part time job waiting tables while she worked her way through college. She thought she was living the fairytale on her way to her very own happily ever after. She thought Cal Suppato was just another man.
She was wrong.
Soon, she would learn that every family has secrets. Every stranger has a dark side. And love isn’t a simple four-letter word. The curtain is pulled back, and Makenna’s world begins to unravel, thread by thread, to reveal something darker—something she’d only heard about in the whispers of her grandmother’s living room. A world many know about but simply refuse to see.

*This is book one (more like a prequel) of a closed door romance series. It is not a love triangle, and there is NO CHEATING. This is the story of three people’s lives intertwined in the threads of fate and the timeless question that always remains unanswered: What if?

The Author

Heather Michelle is a sweet romance newbie and shameless coffee-holic. When she’s not putting words together to create heartwarming stories about love and life, she’s either curled up under her favorite blanket, reading Jane Austen, watching Netflix, or running the clothes through the dryer one more time because she forgot to take them out and they ended up getting wrinkled. She spends most of her time with her wonderful husband, three amazing boys, and unapologetically spoiled furbaby.

Book Review

Oh, where do I even begin with this one? This story truly was so unique and unexpected... and nearly impossible to say all that I have to say without giving away any spoilers! Simply put, this was unlike anything I've read before... and I absolutely loved every moment and couldn't put it down. What I can and will say is that you absolutely want to go in with no expectations. While this is technically book one, it's really more of a prequel, and as such, if you go in expecting that happily ever after by the end of the book... well, you're going to wait. And while we do see some questions being answered when the POV changes in the second part of the book, it still leaves us with many, many more yet to uncover. But it was done so very well that rather than being let down at the lack of immediate closure, it only makes me more excited to see what is going to happen next, I have absolutely no doubts that this one is going to be worth it in the end... and thankfully, it won't be too long a wait for book two anyway! This story was swoon worthy, it was heartbreaking, it was grace-filled, it was dark... and I loved every moment. Another top read for me!

Beautiful Promises is a closed-door romance with vaguely implied intimacy (kisses only on page), mild language, and light faith themes.
