The Book

Charlotte McConor has all the luck of the Irish…until she doesn’t. When she agrees to marry Colin, her boyfriend of several months, things go downhill fast. The second the engagement ring slips on her finger, things get strange—and hot. As in, he burns her hometown to the ground every night in a sick game of cat and mouse.

Unbeknownst to Charlotte, she’s just met her sin-eater—the man cursed by her family to carry her sins forever and keep her cup of luck overflowing. Now he’s out for revenge, unless, of course, they can figure out a way to break the centuries-old curse that has enslaved them both.

The Author

M. J. Padgett is first and foremost a mom. Her free-spirited daughter has quite a vivid imagination, and her antics sometimes find their way into her mommy’s work. She is a lover of all things chocolate, a Grimm and Dickens addict, a self-proclaimed smarty-pants, and an introvert to the core.

Writing is her true passion (after raising her daughter, of course), and she writes as often as possible. One of her favorite things about writing is creating a world where people can escape reality for a little while, maybe even walk away feeling hopeful about the real world around them. When it comes to reading, she loves a book that can make her forget where she is no matter the genre. If she can get lost and feel like the characters are her real friends, she’s a happy reader.

Book Review

I'll be honest, I'm not usually much of a fantasy reader... but I adore M.J. Padgett's contemporary romance reads so I decided to go ahead and give this one a chance. And while this was certainly still out of my usual reading comfort zone, I found that I actually really enjoyed it! Charlotte and Colin's story drew me in right away and left me wondering what was going to happen next. The back and forth between them was intriguing and I loved discovering more about their family secrets and curses right along with them. It was full of surprises, plenty of faith themes and undiscovered secrets that have me looking forward to seeing if there might be more to come (currently this one is a standalone). If you enjoy fantasy (or are just looking to try something different), this is definitely one you'll want to check out!
