Only A Game by Taylor Epperson: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

He hadn’t just been my best friend, he’d been my everything. There was a time when he was mine, before I pushed him away to save both our hearts.

Now, Cooper Caffrey is back in Starlight Springs. With his tender glances and concern in his eyes, I’m trying my best to ignore the man I almost married.

When my no-good sister ends up in jail, I know it’s time to fight for custody of my nephew, Hudson. When Cooper steps in to help, it’s all I can do to keep myself from falling for him. Again.

We remind ourselves it’s only temporary, an arrangement to help keep Hudson safe. But with every passing day, the lie becomes reality. With every touch, glance, and moment together, we feel like us again. And even though I swore I’d never be worthy of a man like Cooper Caffrey, he seems dead set on proving me wrong.

Time will tell if this is all just a game or if we can actually be something real.

Only A Game is a closed-door, small-town romance with kisses only, real life challenges, and a whole lot of laughs.

The Author

Taylor Epperson writes swoony and sweet romances that make you laugh and cry. She also dabbles in poetry. When she's not writing, she's probably reading a good book.

Book Review

Mariage of convenience and second chance romances are a couple of my favorite tropes, so putting them together in one story? Yes, please! Cooper and Evie were impossible not to root for in this one. First of all, the chemistry between them was undeniable... their relationship might have ended ten years earlier, but their feelings never did! I loved seeing them getting their second chance at a happily ever after. But beyond that, they were just genuinely good characters. She is fighting for custody of her nephew to protect him from her alcoholic sister and willing to do whatever it takes to do so... even marrying her ex. He is so patient with her and I love how he steps in to care for them both. Evie's struggles with endometriosis and the realistic portrayal of that reality are definitely going to make this one relatable to many women (or give women like me who have not dealt with it a better understanding). This book definitely touches on some tougher topics, but it does so well. If you love football romance, second chances and a couple you can't help but root for, this is one you'll want to check out.

Only a Game is a closed-door with a non-detailed fade to black and minor language. The author does a great job with reader's expectations, so be sure to check out the author's note to see if this one is for you.
