He cupped his right hand behind her head and pressed his lips to hers in the sweetest kiss. For a second, she flashed back to the teenager she’d been who’d fallen in love with Pete the first time they’d kissed. They’d snuck away on horseback into the orchards for a picnic lunch. Their first kiss had been awkward and shy but Sarah had felt certain her future would be filled with Pete.

As she leaned in closer to him now, her mind moved to the present. Her feet stayed firmly planted in reality. She was with a man changed from the boy she’d known.
