Tenor Willits Gets the Yips by Olivia Hope McCarthy: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

Tenor Willits is America's favorite baseball player.

As a catcher on the Arizona Rattl’rs, Tenor routinely brings his team to victory by throwing out baserunners and signaling perfect pitches.

Until the unthinkable happens —Tenor Willits gets a case of the yips.

Desperate to get his career back on track, Tenor takes the advice of his sports psychologist and heads to Petrified Forest for a weekend of secret identity and absolutely nothing baseball related.

The last thing Tenor expects to find in Petrified Forest is Dahlia. The spunky ecologist studying the Hopi rattlesnake has a penchant for romance novels and an absolute disgust for athletes. Tenor and Dahlia set a crash course for love, but barred from telling her who he really is, Tenor has no choice but to keep one big secret.

When Tenor’s true identity comes to light, the two of them will have to decide if love truly can conquer all.

Tenor Willits Gets the Yips is a kisses-only novella with light Christian themes set in and around Petrified Forest National park.

The Author

Olivia Hope McCarthy writes contemporary romantic comedies for adults with Christian faith themes, no explicit scenes, and no swearing. Her overactive imagination used to cause her chronic anxiety, but then she decided to use the gift of imagination for good. Now she spends her free time dreaming up love stories with humor, heart, and faith.

As someone who likes to stop and smell the roses, take pictures of interesting bugs, and look for beauty in nature, you'll find that each of Olivia's stories is heavily inspired by places you can actually visit, like Marquette, Michigan, and New River Gorge, National Park.

Book Review

If you've read Off Limits Love in Shenandoah, you probably remember Tenor Willits. He's the professional baseball player that Lynette works with to help get over his yips in that book. Having read that previous book, it was fun to see Tenor's side of things... it was a side story that I really didn't know I needed, but one that I found myself absolutely loving just the same. Tenor is a professional baseball player who is given homework to spend a weekend away from all things baseball. Dahlia is an ecologist studying rattlesnakes... and who absolutely cannot stand professional athletes. Still, that doesn't keep her from falling for him when they meet in Petrified Forest! These two had such a great instant chemistry and I just loved them together... even with all the snake talk mixed in there! It was a bit of an insta-love, but it worked for them. As always, I loved how beautifully the author weaves elements of faith into the story as well. Tenor and Dahlia's story was a very short one, easily read in just a sitting or two, but not short of great moments or laughs.

Tenor Willits Gets the Yips is a Christian romance with kisses only and no language. It is part of the National Parks RomCom series, but I think it could be enjoyed as a standalone as well.
