Return to Yellowstone with the next generation of our beloved characters from the original series.

Saddlehorn, MT

Ashton Anderson, former town sweetheart and prodigal son of rancher Clint Anderson, has finally returned home. Where has he been for the last ten years, you ask? Apparently, working a smaller rodeo circuit up north. With his strength and skill, he should have done well, but he has returned battered, bruised, and grieving the loss of his faithful gelding, Dusty. As for the girlfriend who turned down his marriage proposal all those years ago . . .

Kelsey Winters has left her less-than-idyllic past behind. She now helps others as a therapist at the therapeutic riding center outside of town, although her own personal life seems to be a solid mess. She’s tried to be a good older sister to her brother, Darren, but she can’t protect him—or herself—from his poor choices. They’re one bad decision away from homelessness when they’re robbed and Darren is put in jail for possession of a controlled substance.

Due to circumstances beyond their control, Kelsey and Ashton’s long-ago romance resurfaces. But will it leave the gate running, or suffer a colossal wreck?

About the Author

Anne Perrault

Anne Perreault was born and raised in Germany. By the time she was 14 years old, her family moved to Dubai, UAE. While living in this exotic place, she traveled extensively to various countries around the world. After graduating from an American boarding school in Austria, she attended college in England, where she met her husband. She graduated from New England College with a degree in biology, and settled down in Connecticut.

Anne became a horseback riding instructor as well as a certified therapeutic riding instructor. She and a group of friends started a therapeutic riding center in Bristol, CT. During that time, Anne also received a masters degree in secondary education and began to homeschool her three children. While raising their three children, she began to write an inspirational story primarily for her daughter. 12 years later, God commissioned her to write down her skating stories. That started a writing ministry she has enjoyed ever since.

Anne, her husband, and two of their grown children now reside in Southern Vermont, where they are building their home. Besides writing, Anne enjoys reading, spending time with her husband, grown children, and granddogger. Her oldest son and his wife recently welcomed their first child making Anne and her husband now grandparents. She enjoys visiting and seeing her grandlove a few times a year.

Author Interview

Welcome, Anne! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and giving my readers a chance to get to know you and your new book Ashton.

Can you share 5 random facts about yourself that we won’t find in your bio?

  1. I was the first person in my family to travel to Moscow, while it was still behind the Iron Curtain.
  2. My parents were overrun with cats because I rescued a sweet pregnant kitty. And her children continued to consider our home theirs, even after I left.
  3. I’m a dog sitter and would like to start my own kennel. That’s on my bucket list.
  4. I have to have coffee to write.
  5. One of our rabbit does bit me.

When did you first discover you had a passion for writing?

I never thought I’d be a writer. I loved stories from before I can remember. I preferred reading to going out and playing with my friends when I was a kid. I always made up stories in my head. I may have thought about writing them down once when I was in school. But I would hand in my writing, and it would come back dripping in red ink. I decided that I wasn’t going to be a writer.

Little did I know.

When God calls you for something, it is guaranteed that He’ll give you the means and the know-how. When God called me to write down the stories that became The Royal Skater Chronicles, I may have laughed at Him. I told Him that I couldn’t possibly. I made up all sorts of excuses. I dared Him to prove Himself to me. He sure did and then some. Not only did He equip me to be able to write, He went above and beyond. I couldn’t write what I do without His guidance.

I’m so grateful that I gave in to His pressure. He has changed my life in so many ways that I can’t even say. The blessings that I’ve had from writing God-honoring stories are so many.

You have lived in/traveled to many places in your life, do you think those experiences have helped you as a writer?

Absolutely.

What if… came about because of a trip I took to Pakistan. My parents and I took the Shalimar Express, the longest and most boring train ride from Karachi to Lahore. No, we didn’t get kidnapped, but we drove on the Karakorum Highway in Pakistan and traveled to the glacier by the Pakistani/Chinese border. On the way back to Lahore on the Karakorum Highway, our driver took a 5-minute tea break after driving about 5 hours. We were driving through a village. The man turned to my father and told him that we, his daughters and our mom, were not to leave the car under any circumstances. The place was terrifying enough that we didn’t  mind staying in the van at all, with rough-looking bearded men walking around, scimitars strapped to their belts. It was the longest 5 minutes of the trip, which lasted 10 hours.

You bet I had to write about that later in life.

Can you tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind Ashton?

The Yellowstone series is probably one of my most popular series. The characters simply stick to you. I had always planned on going back, but I wasn’t sure how or when. I knew I wanted to bring in the children of the characters, but they needed some time to grow up. In the back of my mind, I always knew I would start with Ashton. I just adored him in Whatever Tomorrow May Bring. He was such a sweet kid. I had high expectations for Ashton, and Ashton, Yellowstone Descendants book 1 didn’t disappoint. The kid brings all the feels

People who love the Canadian TV series Heartland will love this book.

This is the first book in a new next generation series. Will those who have not yet read your previous Yellowstone series be able to enjoy it without that history?

You don’t have to read the original series, although you might want to just to get a feel for the first generation of Yellowstone characters.

What was the most challenging part of bringing this story to life?

The expectations I put on myself were the most challenging part of bringing Ashton to life. Because I love all the characters, there was a lot of pressure I put on myself to do the story justice. Returning to Yellowstone after about 20 years in fictional time was challenging because the original characters are 20 years older. It was a shocker to see that they had aged. It was challenging to regale them to side characters rather than main characters, which was the spot for their children. Because we all know my characters have feelings ðŸ˜….

The most rewarding?

Being able to hang out with those beloved characters again. Seeing how they had changed. Writing about the ‘kids’ and watching their story unfold was and continues to be exciting.

If you could describe your main character(s) in just three words each, what would those words be?

Ashton: Kind, Wounded, Humble

Kelsey: Scarred, Gentle, Determined

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

I hope that they know that, no matter what, God can redeem your past. No matter the choices you made, He is able and more than willing.
