A Little More You by Jennifer Carr: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

Fame put her in the spotlight. It also put her in danger.

He was hired to keep her safe. Falling for her wasn’t part of the job.

Harper Lane didn’t chase fame—but when her music caught the right ears, a reality TV stage turned into sold-out shows and a life lived under a spotlight. Now, with a tour on the horizon and her star rising fast, the pressure is enough without a stalker tracking her every move.

Enter Rett Cross: former military, now elite private security. His mission is simple—keep Harper safe. But the more time they spend together, the more complicated it gets. She's all light and heart. He’s no-nonsense and control. And neither of them is prepared for what’s building between them.

As the tour heats up and the threats close in, their connection deepens—and so do the risks. Because loving Harper doesn’t just mean lowering his guard. It means learning what it really takes to protect someone when the danger hits close to home.

A Little More You is a no spice slow-burn romantic suspense filled with emotional depth, banter, undeniable chemistry—and a dog who always knows more than he lets on.

The Author

Jennifer Carr is a romance author, lifelong daydreamer, and psychology nerd turned author.

A degree in Psychology, a Master’s in Marriage & Family Counseling, multiple certifications in life/wellness coaching and brain health, and years teaching AP Psychology gave her a deep understanding of people—but it was writing that finally gave her a way to share their stories.

What started as a curiosity (“I wonder how that dream was going to end?”) quickly turned into something bigger. One book became several. Passion became purpose. And a new career was born.

Married to her childhood best friend and raising a creative daughter on their quiet Alabama farm, Jennifer writes emotional, character-driven fiction with heart, healing, no spice, and just the perfect amount of swoon.

When she’s not writing, you’ll find her reading romance novels, listening to music, baking something delicious, or sipping strong coffee with her cat nearby.

Book Review

Bodyguard + musician romance? Two tropes I love were rolled into this fantastic story, highlighting the rise to fame... and the unexpected danger that can sometimes go along with that. What was really interesting about this story is that there was a really slow build up... but not in a bad way. The first half of the story allows us to get to know Harper and Rett individually, over the course of a few years. I found myself intrigued to see how their lives were going to connect... and once they finally meet over halfway through the book, oooh... I just adored them together! There was enough suspense in the story to give that sense of danger, and just when I thought I had figured out exactly what was happening, it would surprise me. I love a good protective MMC, and Rett certainly was that! Theirs was truly a VERY slow burn... but it only made the payoff all the more worth it. This is the first book that I had read from the author/series, but it has me excited to read more!

A Little More You is a closed-door romance with kisses only and minimal minor language. It is the fifth book in the Real American Country series. I had not personally read any of the previous books in the series, and I found I was able to enjoy this one just fine as a standalone.
