Walking Green Flag by Marie Veillon: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

Welcome Back to Camellia, Louisiana

Dr. Rowan LaFleur has been waiting a lifetime for the perfect, faith-filled wife and a family of his own, until a tempting proposition from the sexy, tattooed stranger who saves him from anaphylaxis leaves him questioning everything. Claire Bergeron is bold, brazen, and recently divorced—the opposite of what Rowan envisioned for himself, yet utterly irresistible. Still, a one-night soulmate experience isn’t enough for Rowan to sell his soul, even at the risk of further damaging Claire’s tender heart.

Confident she’ll never face Rowan again, Claire reinforces her walls and puts the disastrous encounter behind her. But when the adorably wholesome doctor turns out to be her best friend’s brother and the newest addition to small-town Camellia, Louisiana, the awkward vibe is the least of Claire’s worries.

Rowan struggles with his fall from grace, but as his infatuation with Claire grows stronger, so does the call toward marriage and family. Meanwhile, Claire’s still afraid of falling short, especially with a walking green flag like Rowan. Discerning that she’s everything he’s ever needed in a wife is only the beginning—Rowan will need to convince Claire to give marriage a second chance, even if that means begging on both knees.

Walking Green Flag is the fourth minty romance in Marie Veillon's Camellia Rom-Com Series. This novel also incorporates Cajun and Catholic themes.

The Author

A former high school lit teacher from South Louisiana, Marie Veillon is still learning to balance her ridiculous accent, Cajun-French—inspired vocabulary, and horrible speaking syntax with writing humorous stories and creating characters and situations relatable enough to make readers forget they aren’t real. She enjoys reading books about her Catholic faith and rom-coms with a guaranteed HEA, watching football, cooking, online shopping, fangirling, traveling, and spending time with her amazing family.

Book Review

It's no secret by now that I'm a big fan of a good awkward meet cute. And this story? We get not one, but two awkward meetings... even if they never officially met the first time around. It was followed up by what could have been one of the most embarrassing first 'dates'... but was one that truly came across as completely endearing. I couldn't help but feel bad for Rowan from the start. And yet, there was still this immediate chemistry between them that was absolutely undeniable. Of course, the last thing they expected after a failed one-night stand was to discover that Claire was actually best friends with Rowan's sister. Talk about awkward! I couldn't help but enjoy the dynamic between these two... there was that awkwardness, yes... but there was also a tenderness between them... and plenty of moments to keep me laughing too. I truly couldn't help but enjoy their story.

Now, let's talk heat level/spice, shall we? If you've read any of Marie Veillon's Camellia Rom-Com series, you already probably know that her characters/stories aren't shy with the innuendo. While the story does take on a biblical/Catholic view of sex before marriage, it's still talked about pretty openly. A LOT. The door may stay closed, but again, this story starts with a failed one-night stand, and the physical aspect of their relationship played a big part of their story going forward. Marie calls her books minty (or PG-13 equivalent) and honestly, that fits them well.  As such, it might not be one that all closed-door readers are going to find fits into their comfort zone, so do keep that in mind. There is also mild/moderate language throughout.

Walking Green Flag is the fourth book in the Camellia Rom-Com series. I have personally only read the one previous book and found I was able to enjoy this one just the same.
