Cheri Strange is an award-winning author, speaker, and digital creator. She is passionate about helping women grow spiritually and flourish in their faith. With a Ph.D. and twenty years of ministry experience, she shares practical wisdom and biblical truth that meets women right where they are. Through her books, resources, YouVersion Bible plans, and digital art, Cheri inspires thousands to desire more of God in everyday life. Have you ever wondered why, even as devoted followers of Jesus, your spiritual growth sometimes feels stalled? Why the abundant, fruit-filled life God promises can feel just out of reach? I’ve asked these questions of my own heart—and what I discovered in Scripture inspired me to write Increase Your Bloom Ability.

The Bible makes it clear: spiritual fruitfulness isn’t reserved for the gifted or the theologically trained—it’s for every believer (John 15:8). Yet many of us feel stuck, questioning whether we’re doing enough or if real growth is even possible. I dug into Scripture to uncover truths that can help unlock a life that truly bears fruit.

This devotional is the culmination of years of teaching, study, and personal reflection. I wanted to create something that equips you to experience more of God’s promises for your life. Inspired by Andrew Peterson’s words in Adorning the Dark, where he describes his ministry as “telling the truth as beautifully as he can,” I sought to do the same in this book.

I illustrated Increase Your Bloom Ability myself, filling it with over 200 pages of floral artwork—an offering of beauty alongside truth. My hope is that these pages will speak to your soul and draw you into a more vibrant, fruitful walk with Jesus.

My mission is simple: to help you experience a life of profound spiritual growth, one that blooms and flourishes as God intended. Through Scripture, reflection, and the visual beauty of this devotional, I pray you are encouraged, equipped, and inspired to embrace your calling and take intentional steps toward greater fruitfulness.

Can you tell us a little bit about what readers can expect from your books?
Readers can expect biblically rich, practical, and hope-filled books designed for real women with real lives. I write for the woman who loves God but often feels stretched thin and/or spiritually inconsistent. My books make Scripture clear and accessible, offering actionable steps she can take while encouraging her toward steady, meaningful growth. If she’s longing for a deeper connection with God but needs guidance she can use in the middle of a crazy season, she will find my resources to be a welcomed companion to urge her forward on her journey. And the pages are lovely.

What is the greatest advice you have ever been given about writing?
For me, the best advice I have been given about writing is simple: Done is better than perfect. As a recovering perfectionist, I can revise a project into oblivion. But seasoned writers helped me see that a good idea, executed well for the benefit of others is better than a great idea on my desk that never helps anyone. Excellence is ideal, but if the drive for excellence keeps me from finishing, good is good enough.

Can you share 5 random facts about this book?

The devotional contains 200+ original floral illustrations I created using AI-assisted design tools.

It was much like working as a florist to design arrangements. No one expects the florist to produce the flowers herself—but she is the one with the eye for knowing what belongs where; for bringing individual pieces together to make spectacular bouquets; selecting colors with complementary types of flowers; and utilizing general design principles for making something beautiful.

The structure of the book follows a growth metaphor that runs from Day 1 to Day 40.

Each section intentionally mirrors what must be considered for growth and flourishing to take place—helping the reader visualize spiritual formation as real growth.

The entire interior layout—including typography, flourishes, spacing, and artwork placement—was personally designed.

No pre-made templates were used. The devotional's interior is hand-built page by page to match the flow of the readings.

The Hardback Gift edition (from my shops, not Amazon) was created because of reader requests for a more giftable, durable, heirloom-style devotional.

I chose heavier paper, ribbon bookmark, and superior finishes because women kept telling me they wanted something they could keep, gift, and return to year after year.

Many devotional entries were originally twice as long but were edited down so readers could actually finish each day in a consistent time frame.

The goal was to foster transformation—not overwhelm. Many days began as multi-page reflections and musings, but were honed into short, potent readings women with busy schedules could complete.

What was the most challenging part of bringing this book to life? 
For me, the most challenging part of bringing this book to life was all about logistics. I have only published traditionally in the past, so I was unfamiliar with all of the details and the time factors required for getting my manuscript and the illustrations print-ready. I learned a great deal that I can apply to future endeavors like this one.

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?
If readers could walk away from this book believing John 15:8 is written with them in mind—that God’s desire for their life is profound fruitfulness and that there is a path marked out for becoming ever-increasingly more fruitful—my joy would be complete.
