The Letters We Don't Expect by Evie Sterling: Book Review

The Book

One cabin + a few letters = one unexpected Christmas

Harper

One leaky pipe, and suddenly I’m spending December in Eli Stone’s cabin. Aunt Rita calls it a “holiday blessing,” which is suspicious—especially since I suspect she’s the same aunt who somehow arranged for “Mrs. Claus” to send me a letter that knows more about my heart than I do. Now I’m decking Eli’s very un-decked halls, trying to ignore how safe it feels to be here… and how my heart trips when he smiles.

Eli

I’ve built my life on quiet. Predictable. No surprises. Then Harper Lane—and her twinkle lights, cat, and mysterious letter—moved in. She laughs like she’s trying to convince the world she’s fine, but I’ve started to see the truth under the sparkle. And I can’t stop wanting to be the one she lets in.

This Christmas, maybe the best gift isn’t under the tree.
Maybe it’s her.

The Letters We Don’t Expect, a friends-to-more novella, is book 6 of the Letters to Mrs. Claus multi-author series—a kisses-only romantic comedy collection bursting with holiday cheer. Each story is linked through Mrs. Claus’s Operation Mistletoe Match, where she receives a letter from a meddling friend or family member about someone lonely, heartbroken, or closed off to love. With her timeless wisdom, Mrs. Claus pens a tailored message to the subject of the letter, offering an inspiring note that tackles their romantic roadblock. Packed with hilarious mishaps, flustered blushes, and courageous adventures as they chase their happily-ever-after in this no-spice, swoon-worthy series!

Book Review

Harper might have shown up to Eli's cabin in a chaotic assortment of glitter and holiday decor... and her meddling Aunt Rita might bring her own bit of chaos into the mix... but despite all that, there was actually a quietness about this story that I found myself really enjoying. Their story truly was the book equivalent of curling up by the fire with a warm blanket and a cup of cocoa... cozy and festive. I really enjoyed the easy chemistry between Harper and Eli... the way they connected over shared hurts in their past, it was all just beautifully done. There were some unexpected surprises to their story, making me root for them all that much more. It's a super quick read- easily read in just a sitting or two- making it the perfect choice for a cozy holiday read this time of the year. This was another really cute addition to the series!

The Letters We Don't Expect is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. It is part of the Letters to Mrs. Claus series, a multi-author series of holiday novellas that can all be enjoyed as standalones or in any order.
