Give Her Time by K.P. Haven: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

Lily
One would think a nomadic life would be peaceful drifting from place to place, hiking scenic trails across the western U.S. But no matter how far I go, I can’t outrun the event that drove me from my hometown in Mississippi.

Now, in Pinebrook, California, tucked just outside Yosemite National Park, I cling to the hope that fresh air and distance might finally quiet the monstrous narrative in my mind.

Content to keep to myself, I take a temporary job with a plan to disappear in six months—no attachments. Then a freak accident puts me on his radar. Noah Sullivan is too kind. Too observant. And far too interested in my current living conditions.

What he offers is insane, but he might be the only thing standing between me and the nightmare I thought I’d left behind.

Noah
I’ve lived in Pinebrook most of my life—working for the National Park Service and living with my canine partner in a cabin deep in Yosemite. It’s quiet. Predictable.

But my mother is dying.
She’s deteriorating quickly, refuses help, and the guilt of not being able to save her the way I want to—the way I should—gnaws at me.

There isn’t much that can distract me from the routine I’ve built around keeping it all together.
Until Lily Parker.
She’s rude, sarcastic, and the exact opposite of the type of person I’d normally let into my life, let alone fall for. But she’s hurting, homeless, and I can’t walk away.

I know what it costs to make the wrong call. I made that mistake once before, back when I was young, and now I’m paying for it.

I’ll break my rules for her.
But walking away from her?
That might destroy me.

Give Her Time is a slow burn, contemporary romance novel with a fade-to-black/low spice romance. While this can be enjoyed as a standalone, reading Debt of My Soul beforehand can enhance your reading experience. Please see the author’s website for TW/CW.

Book Review

My goodness, what a story! If you're looking for a lighthearted romance... well, this one isn't it. Lily and Noah's happily ever after is hard fought, taking us through an absolute emotional wringer before we get there... but making it all the more beautiful when we do. I don't want to give too much away, but this one is heartbreaking and gritty with imperfect characters and just the right amount of suspense. At some points that made it really difficult to read, but there was also a sense of healing and growth through all that as well. The chemistry between Lily and Noah was undeniable and I absolutely loved the vulnerability between these two as well. They held me from start to finish, and I know it is going to be a story that will stick with me for a very long time after too. Definitely a top read for me!

Give Her Time is a fade-to-black romance with steamy build up (clothes coming off, etc.). While no explicit details are given, it is clear what is happening off the pages. There is also some moderate language throughout. This story does deal with topics that could be potentially triggering for some readers to include   . See the author's note for the full list. While this is a standalone, it is connected to Debt of My Soul, and I do think those who have read that previous book will get the most appreciation for finding out Lily's story.
