The Risks of Reuniting by Aspen Hadley: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

Chloe Moore doesn't fly.

Chloe Moore has always refused to step foot on a plane - a.k.a Death Bucket. Not happening. However, when she goes down a rabbit hole of self-help books after a painful breakup, she finds herself signing up for a humanitarian trip to Peru in order to rediscover herself by serving others.

She manages to get to the airport, and even survive the first leg of the trip without disgracing herself, but when she comes face-to-face with the very cause of her impromptu service mission, she immediately understands that the universe is not her friend.

Holt Alvarez firmly believes the universe is his very best friend. Why else would the woman he can’t forget - and who would never fly - end up at the same airline gate, going to the same humanitarian facility?

Holt isn’t going to let this opportunity to reunite pass him by.

But is Chloe willing to take the risk?

The Author

Award winning author Aspen Hadley loves nothing more than a great story. She has devoted herself to story-telling for the majority of her life, writing her first novel at her kitchen table in the 8th grade. Aspen writes what she wants to read: closed-door, sweet and sassy romantic comedy novels, with all the swoon and no explicit content. She thinks books should give you a break from real life and leave you feeling happy.

Outside of writing, Aspen's number one hobby is reading. Number two is sneaking chocolate into and out of her private stash without being caught. Other favorite things include: playing the piano, listening to classic rock, telling jokes around the dinner table, eating ice cream, traveling, a good case of the giggles, and riding on ATVs over the many trails in her home state of Utah.

Aspen shares her life with a patient husband, 4 hilarious children, and 1 grumpy dog in a quiet suburb next to her beloved mountains.

Given the choice she would road trip her life away, singing along to the radio and sleeping in every morning.

Book Review

What a perfect start to this multi-author series. The first destination: Lima, Peru. As I was reading this story, I found myself thinking that either Aspen Hadley is an amazing researcher or that she had some experience in Peru... so I was not at all surprised to learn that not only had she made that trip herself, but some of her own experiences made it into the story as well... and she did a fantastic job of bringing readers right along on that trip with her, feeling like we were there. It did, in some ways, feel like a bit of a love letter to that place, and while it's a place that I have never thought much about, it made me want to learn and see more. Beyond that though, it was also a beautiful romance between Holt and Chloe. Second chances are some of my favorites, and this one was done really well with fate finding these two exes unexpectedly on the same humanitarian trip to Peru. One thing that can be really great about second chances is that while sometimes the initial issues that tore them apart are still there, these characters now know what it is like to not have the other in their life--- and it can make them fight that much harder to make it work. This was certainly true for Holt and Chloe. They had a beautiful chemistry between them that I couldn't help but enjoy them together. And that last chapter? What a perfect ending to their story... I loved it. The emails to Chloe's family and the cousin texts added so much fun to the story as well, and I find myself looking forward to seeing what adventure this series is going to take us on next.

The Risks of Reuniting is a closed-door romance with kisses only.
