Ryan Sloan is part of the Sloan family – he’s the second oldest brother in a family of five boys. The Sloan brothers were first introduced in The Texas Seal’s Surprise, which is book one in my Three Springs, Texas series. The Sloan brothers were originally secondary characters set to make a quick appearance in one of the later scenes at the Feisty Owl Bar and Grill in The Texas Seal’s Surprise. However, the brothers left a big impression on me. From the moment they stepped onto the scene, I instantly wanted to know more about these five cowboys who had me laughing out loud. I wanted to learn more about the close-knit Sloan clan, why the five boys were raised by their grandparents, and how they became the cowboys they are. I had so many questions, I opened a blank document and explored the Sloan family history. That ultimately led me to dive deeper into the five brothers, which made me realize that each of these brothers needed their own stories. I suddenly wanted each one of the brothers to find their own happily-ever-after.
The Rancher’s Secret Crush is the third book in the Sloan Brother’s series. As for the inspiration behind The Rancher’s Secret Crush, well, out of the five brothers, Ryan is the most laid back and he’s a cowboy through and through. Ryan’s world revolves around his family and the professional rodeo. When I first started thinking about Ryan’s story, I knew he needed a heroine to challenge him, and I knew I wanted a really fun story. That’s when I realized Ryan needed to fall hard for a city girl – a heroine outside of his world and Elsie Parks was the by-the-book city-girl Ryan wouldn’t see coming. And I was instantly intrigued to see what would happen when Elsie got to Ryan’s closed-off heart. I like the opposites attract trope because it offers the opportunity for a lot of fun and unexpected things to happen in the plot. And these two opposites did not disappoint from the opening chapter to the end.
