Siobhan frowned. “Then maybe this isn’t some student-quality fifties-era fiddle?”

“Student quality, likely.” Ian set the fiddle on the workbench. “In any event, without a maker’s label, it’s impossible to know until it’s played. But as to its age? Eighteen hundreds, easily.”

“What do you think happened to it?”

Ian shrugged. “Hard to say. Nothing good, that’s for certain.”

“Would there be any way to find out more?”

Ian grinned. “I suppose you could always ask the handsome young bloke who brought it in.”

Siobhan resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Any time a guy came into the shop without an obvious wedding ring, Ian tried to play matchmaker. 

Fortunately, there was another source of information Siobhan could consult: her historian half sister, Sloane.

And they were entirely overdue for a coffee date.
