That Time I Kissed My Beachfront Boss by Julie Christianson: Book Review

*Book received for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

My dream job just got snapped up by the one man who rejected me…

That’s right. I’m an unemployed twenty-something stuck sleeping on my grandmother’s old futon while Hudson Blaine, the guy who shot me down, gets to manage The Beachfront Inn

Talk about life being unfair.

I’m about to flee town with what’s left of my pride, when Mr. Rejection begs me to stay. Apparently, he needs my help resuscitating the inn’s reputation before the grand reopening.

But I’m not sure I can bear Hudson being my new boss, or survive sharing an office with him and his wife-me-up eyes.

So I tell myself it’s just for one month. One month to prove myself and what I’m capable of …

Or go down on the shores of The Beachfront Inn in a blaze of humiliation.

That Time I Kissed My Beachfront Boss is a closed-door romantic comedy in the Abieville Love Stories series with all the sizzling chemistry you love, but no explicit scenes or language.

Tropes in the book:

  • Sworn off relationships
  • Forced proximity
  • Workplace romance
  • Found family
  • Small town

Julie Christianson writes sweet romantic comedies—but only when she’s not reading them. A former English teacher and lapsed marathon runner, Julie lives in Southern California with her one husband, two kids, and three rescue dogs. She’s madly in love with all of them, but there’s not a lot of room on her couch.

That Time I Kissed My Beachfront Boss is the third book in the Abieville Love Stories series, but I think it could definitely be enjoyed just fine as a standalone as well. That said, if you have read the previous books in that series or any books from Julie Christianson's OTHER series, you might see a few familiar characters pop up--- which is always a fun treat!

This was such a fun read! Right from the start, I was drawn right in with a game of truth or dare that... well, let's just say it doesn't end so well! What a way to start the story! The story then jumps to a few years later and Olivia finds herself back in Abieville and face to face in another awkward moment with Hudson... and a moment that had me laughing out loud. These two were so wonderful together--- not only in how they worked together, but their chemistry too. Both had reasons for not wanting to get involved with anyone, but I loved seeing them work through their issues as the story goes on. Not only was it a great romance, but I loved the smalltown/found family vibes of the story too. And the sibling texts? That was another favorite that really just added so much humor and fun to the story. I loved everything about it!

That Time I Kissed My Beachfront Boss is a closed-door romance, with nothing beyond kisses and no language.
