The Inspiration Behind Renewed Hope

Different events or eras seem to inspire books. Some are comical, some are serious, and some are flat-out heartbreaking.

The inspiration behind Renewed Hope is flat-out heartbreaking.

It comes from the death of my niece and her encounter with domestic violence.

Alcohol and drug abuse run rampant on many reservations. It’s no different here on the Colville Indian Reservation in Eastern Washington State where I live and the tragedy occurred.

I believe if drugs and alcohol were not involved, my niece would still be alive.

There’s a movement that brings awareness to the First American community called Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women or MMIW (It also includes People,” MMIP).

My goal is to bring awareness to MMIW and Domestic Violence, DW, because I don’t want anyone to experience the devastation our family went through. And the “Missing” in MMIP is why I inserted child abduction into the story. Again, to bring awareness.

In 2009, my niece passed away after a week on life support. It was a hard week full of sorrow, anger, and confusion. How could a husband do this to his wife? They were in their early twenties. Full of life, or so it seemed.

Yet there were signs and attempts to get her away from him.

Those attempts failed, and she ended up lifeless

But I learned that God brings blessings out of ashes.

We’ve all heard the saying, “What Satan means for harm, God turns into good.” Well, He does because God is good. He heals, restores, strengthens, and comforts. In painful times, He draws us close and polishes our faith.

Renewed Hope is a portion of the good that has come out of the tragedy. Though fictional, this story brings awareness and hope to MMIW and DV and provides a way to realize there are second chances at love in healthy relationships

This Western romance provides a happy ending filled with love and laughter

I’ve shed many tears while writing this book, but it has healed me too. And I hope it will help victims of abuse know they are not alone and that there is hope and healing, even among horses.

I’ve experienced the healing God uses with horses and other animals. The use of animal-assisted therapy can be a powerful tool to help heal victims of abuse, illness, and loneliness. It’s one of the many blessings from God.
