When Eliza's life is threatened, she turns to a handsome veteran for help.

I left everything I'd ever known behind. And that decision may cost me my life.

The moving truck hadn't even been unpacked when my fresh start went up in flames.

A frightening letter left in my mailbox and signed Always Yours sends me running to the only man in town who can help me.

Driven by his protective nature and a mission he believes comes from God, ex-Army Ranger Lance Knight agrees, despite the fact that I've made it no secret I want nothing to do with him--or anyone for that matter.

The longer we're together, the more I begin to realize that Lance is more than I gave him credit for. Something that troubles me nearly as much as the fact that an unknown man seems to have already claimed me as his.

Trouble is, my admirer has a jealous side, and it's not long before Lance is pulled into the crosshairs right alongside me…

Author Interview

Welcome, Jessica! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and giving my readers a chance to get to know you and your new book Pages of Promise.

I like to start these interviews the same way, with something fun to break the ice. Can you share 5 random facts about you that we will not find in your bio?

OH gosh, haha! Why am I so bad at this? Let’s see…I used to train horses and at one point, ran my own in-home bakery where I baked and decorated large tiered cakes. I love to sing, lift weights, and am obsessed with chickens.

When did you first discover you had a passion for writing?

When I was a teenager. I wanted to be just like Nora Roberts.

What drew you to writing Christian romantic suspense?

I’ve been actively publishing for nearly a decade, and have over 50 romance novels under my belt. Recently, I started feeling like I wanted to make a change and write something that not only brought me closer to God, but will showcase His love for us, and the importance of leaning on Him in difficult times. And with that, Pages of Promise was born.

Before becoming a writer, you spent seven years in the Army. Do you feel like that experience has helped you as a writer?

Absolutely. You learn a lot about people when you’re in close quarters for a long period of time, haha. Some of the characters I write about share qualities with people I served with or met while serving.

Are you a plotter or a panster? Tell us a little about your writing routine.

100% pantser. I’ve tried to plot–really–but it ALWAYS crushes my creativity. I do take notes while I write, and will sometimes start with a super loose outline, but no matter how hard I try, I cannot plot.

If you could describe your main character(s) in just three words each, what would those words be?

Oooooh. Lance: Faithful. Humble. Strong. Eliza: Strong. Resilient. Loyal.

Can you tell us a little bit more about Pages of Promise

I wanted to write something that had that real-life grit in addition to the hopeful undertones you find in Christian romance. Eliza has been through the absolute ringer (like a lot of us), and while she is cautious because of it–to the point some people may not like her at first–she wants to trust. Despite everything she’s been through, she hasn't lost her ability to be loved.

In my younger years, I went through a LOT. I don’t want to get into gritty details, but it had me spiraling for a long time. I lost my way, stopped leaning on my faith, and cared more about what the world thought of me.

It wasn’t until I met my husband that I started to truly see that I was never really alone. I wanted to write something that would shine a light on the message that while people will let us down–God never does. He is always there, even if we don’t see it.

What was the most challenging part of bringing this story to life? The most rewarding?

The most challenging part was doing the genre justice. I wanted to make sure I hit everyone's expectations, while staying true to the story I wanted to tell.

The most rewarding, was definitely the early feedback. I had a beta reader tell me that this book was not her typical genre, but she absolutely loved it, and found that the messages meant the world to her.

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

That no matter HOW far you stray, or how lost you feel, you are NEVER alone. It’s easy to lose sight of our faith when we blame God for the things humans put us through, but we have to remember that even when they let us down, He never will.
