She doesn’t believe in love anymore. He doesn’t either.

They’re perfect for each other.

Beloved romance novelist Kylie Franklin walked away from her pen-name career as bestselling and award-winning Veronica Hollins the day her husband died. Her loyal readers are eager for the final book in her sensational series. But Kylie’s given up on love, both fictional and in real life. Behind her back, Kylie’s agent contrives a way to get her writing again.

Joe Edwards has made a name for himself with his popular military suspense novels under the pen name Tate Merrick. Yet he can’t quite break onto the bestseller list. What his books need, his publisher suggests, is some romance. Joe flat refuses. However, his publisher is determined and hires Veronica Hollins to save the day—and his career.

Veronica and Tate quickly realize they’re Kylie and Joe, good friends who connected online via a popular word game and their mutual love of trivia. Surely they can wrangle their alter egos into this literary collaboration. But as the deadline looms, their differences threaten the romance developing off the page.

From a Christy Award-winning author comes this charming mash-up of hidden identities, literary tug of war, and falling in love when you least expect it.

Author Interview

Welcome, Beth! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and allowing my readers to get to know you and your new book Dedicated to the One I Love.

I like to start these interviews the same way, with something fun to break the ice. Can you share 5 random facts about you that we will not find in your bio?
I have a fraternal twin sister who I’m older than by four minutes.

My husband and I dated long-distance for a year before we married.

I lived in Turkey for two years, thanks to being a military spouse.

I’m craft-challenged – I gave away my sewing machine when I turned 30.

I hate, hate, hate, spiders. Hates ‘em.

When did you first discover you had a passion for writing? I was writing stories in seventh grade and asking my English teacher to read them. They were highly dramatic, somewhat plagiarized historical romances.

The tagline of your website states, ‘God’s best is often found behind the doors marked “Never.”’ One of your nevers was never writing fiction. What happened to change that?
I was a nonfiction editor and writer, very happy on that side of the writing road, so to speak. Then I hit a season of burnout and God turned that time into a bend in the writing road. I started writing a novel “just for fun,” as I told my husband. That manuscript became my 2012 debut novel, Wish You Were Here.

What drew you to writing romance?

I’ve always read romance novels, starting with Georgette Heyer’s Regency novels back in middle school, and then a variety of inspirational authors, including Rachel Hauck, and Susan May Warren. As both a reader and an author, I enjoy how you can take the basic elements of romance – certain tropes like a friends to falling in love romance or a marriage of convenience – and infuse it with your writer’s voice, your particular plot points, and develop a story all your own with a happily ever after at the end.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Develop a writing community from the beginning of your writing journey. Connect with other writers – ones who are just beginning and understand what you’re experiencing, and ones who are further along the writing road and can teach you, and possibly even become mentors for you.

Can you tell us a little bit more about Dedicated to the One I Love

I struggled to find the title for Dedicated to the One I Love. One evening, I started googling “top romantic songs” and “classic romantic songs,” hoping for inspiration. When I listened to the old Mamas and the Papas song, I knew I’d found my title. It’s the perfect blend of romance and literary symbolism for the book.

What was the most challenging part of bringing this story to life? The most rewarding?

Dedicated to the One I Love was written during some tough months in my life, as I remembered that, no matter what, God made me to be a creative. I didn’t want to lose that part of my heart during the struggles. Sometimes stubbornness, ahem! Determination can be a vital part of the writing process. The most rewarding part of the process was knowing I had a close group of friends praying for me daily as I wrote this book. Their prayers carried me through.

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

Both Kylie and Joe need to set aside their normal way of doing things, their preferred way of writing books, and learn to work together for this project to be successful. It’s the whole biblical idea of considering someone else more important than yourself, which is the ultimate act of kindness.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Before you go, where can readers follow along to see what’s coming next?
