Dear Adam by Kelsey Whitney: Book Review

*Book received for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

Aly and Adam Bloomington have been best friends since birth. They are twins after all. When Adam travels to California for work and to visit an old friend, he leaves his beloved–and ill-behaved–dachshund, Pretzel, behind with Aly.

When Adam FaceTimes Aly, his childhood best friend Levi hovering over his shoulder, Aly can’t believe this tall, broad-shouldered, chiseled stranger is the same scrawny, floppy-haired boy they grew up with. Could this be the same boy she secretly used to crush on? Aly finds herself wanting to get to know the mysterious man he’s grown into after not seeing or hearing from him in nearly ten years.

But Aly’s life changes in an instant when Adam gets in a terrible car crash that leaves him in a coma.

Forced to cope without her built-in best friend, she does the only thing she can think of: she begins texting Adam about all the things he’s missing, giving him an easy way to catch up when he eventually wakes.

There’s just one problem: Adam’s phone isn’t where it’s supposed to be…

Kelsey Whitney is a West Virginian with a heart for the coast. In her debut novel, Whitney joins the ranks of authors who know for certain, the Carolinas are a place to call home.

If you like: brother's best friend, childhood crushes, doggy mayhem and unicorn underpants... you absolutely do not want to miss this sweet romance!

When I first read the description of this one, I was definitely curious to check it out. A brother in a coma isn't necessarily the first thing that we think of when we heard 'romantic comedy' and yet the author made it work. Those emotional moments blended well with the humorous ones to result in a story that had me unable to put it down. I loved the chemistry between Aly and Levi... they were so fun together, and there is just something about mutual childhood crushes finally coming together that makes for a sweet story, right? The comedy in this one was absolutely fantastic--- thanks in large part to a couple of crazy dogs who always seem to be causing some kind of trouble! I found myself laughing out loud several times throughout at their antics.

It seemed like the author was perhaps hinting at another romance to come... and I'm certainly hope that my assumption here is correct because I would absolutely love to read it. Either way, I look forward to seeing more from this author in the future!

  1. I love romantic comedies. Looks like a book that I would really enjoy. Thank you for sharing your review.
