Do you ever finish a movie and find yourself thinking to yourself, "Wow! That was a great movie. Everyone needs to see this."?

I must admit those movies are pretty rare for me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good movie... but it takes a lot to totally and completely wow me and I just haven't seen a ton of those lately.

But when I watched Jesus Revolution?

Completely wowed.

Take a look:

Synopsis: In the 1970s, young Greg Laurie (Joel Courtney) is searching for all the right things in all the wrong places: until he meets Lonnie Frisbee (Jonathan Roumie), a charismatic hippie-street-preacher. Together with Pastor Chuck Smith (Kelsey Grammer), they open the doors of Smith’s languishing church to an unexpected revival of radical and newfound love, leading to what TIME Magazine dubbed a JESUS REVOLUTION.

This movie is based on the true events that TIME Magazine called The Jesus Revolution that occurred in the early 70s. As the movie begins, we meet Chuck's character-- a preacher who does not like or understand hippies. In a conversation with his daughter, he informs her that if God wants him to understand hippies, he'd have to send him one.

Of course, God answers.

When Chuck meets Lonnie, his eyes are opened to a group of young hippies who have found that drugs weren't filling the voids, but Jesus could. Unfortunately, many churches weren't welcoming to them. Chuck opened the doors to his failing church and despite the disapproval of some, they soon saw God working among this group and Christianity spreading.

First and foremost, this movie was wonderfully put together. I think the talent did a great job of bringing this story to life. I enjoyed everything about it--- the look, the music, and most importantly the story. The movie is rated PG-13 due to drug use, which is fitting given the story. I would have no problem letting my 15-year-old watch it.

The thing that I loved most about this movie is that I feel like it is one that is still so very relevant today. While I certainly think that churches have come a long way, it's definitely not always the case. How many stories have we heard from people who have stepped away from the church because they didn't feel like they were welcome? That they didn't feel like they were good enough to come as they are? That is certainly something that still happens today. That doesn't mean that we as Christians should embrace or condone sin, BUT we do need to remember that we are ALL sinners and the church is not for perfect people, but broken ones who need God in our lives. This is a story that appeals not just to youth, but to anyone and everyone who has ever felt not good enough.
