Between cable networks and streaming services galore, it seems there is an endless number of cartoons these days to entertain kids. But watch a few of them, and you'll certainly discover that all kids' shows are not created equally. In fact, there are many that I find myself thinking are just not the kind of entertainment I really want for my kids.

When I first learned about THE GARDEN, I was pretty excited to check out this Bible-themed alternative. Check it out:

“The Garden” is a Christ-centered children’s cartoon series aimed at teaching your kids the Gospel in a way they can understand. It features LENNY THE LION and LUCY THE LAMB—two best friends who work inside a magical garden where ANYTHING can grow! Each story revolves around them having to accomplish their goals by learning a Bible story or an original song. “The Garden” will take your kids right along on these adventures, too!

When I first saw the previews for The Garden, I had two initial thoughts. First, I thought the characters were absolutely adorable. They really reminded me of the type of animation you see with popular Nickelodeon cartoons. It came as no surprise then to learn it was created by Butch Hartman, the creator of some iconic animated shows like The Fairly Oddparents, Danny Phantom, Tuff Puppy and Bunsen is a Beast. He is just one of the super talented people making this cartoon possible. The character of Lenny is voiced by James Arnold Taylor, the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi on ‘The Clone Wars’. The character of Lucy is voiced by Cristina Milizia, the voice of Jessica Cruz/Green lantern, Poison Ivy from ‘Batman’ and also voices from “Monster High”, “The Cuphead Show” and “The Casagrandes!”. The character of The Boss is voiced by Brian Stivale known for multiple video game voices.

With talent like that, it must be good right... but I must admit, I was expecting it to be geared toward super young kids. And while, yes, I think younger audiences will certainly appreciate and understand the lessons that it teaches as well, it was also something that my 9-year-old really enjoyed as well. We were asked to check out the Christmas episode "The Greatest Gift". It was adorable with a great message about the reason for the season, with fun songs and characters. My daughter really liked the character of Mr. Toothacher, and said he was very much like the Grinch. I could definitely see that comparison. I loved that where other Christmas cartoons might have great messages of Christmas being about more than gifts and the hoopla of the holiday (such as the Grinch), this one really does point it all back to Christ. The main goal of The Garden is to not JUST entertain, but to teach kids about the God's Word as well. I think that was very much accomplished in this holiday episode as my daughter and I very much enjoyed it... so much so in fact that she went on to watch several more episodes as well! While the Christmas episode was certainly our favorite of all, they were all super cute and fun!

The Garden is currently available to stream on PureFlix and Yippee TV. There are 40 episodes being made with an original song in every episode. A ‘GARDEN APP’ will soon be available as well.
