It's the most wonderful time of the year!
Oh
yes, the Christmas season is certainly my most favorite season of all! I love
everything about it--- the decorations, the music, the tradition, the food,
the magic...
But as wonderful as this time of year is, it can
also be extremely busy. There's so much to get done...and so little time to do
it! Sometimes in the midst of it all, it can be easy to forget to take some
time to remember and to teach our children why it is that we as Christians
celebrate... and how very important that very first Christmas all those years
ago in Bethlehem truly was!
When I first learned about the
new movie, IT’S CHRISTMAS AGAIN, I was so excited to see a movie
celebrating just that, and I couldn't wait to check it out. Take a look:
Synopsis: Jake Young (Lawson Touliatos) wants nothing more than to spend his
Christmas vacation with his girlfriend, Abbey Walker (Leela Owen). So when
Abbey volunteers for her church’s Christmas play, Jake is ready to skip
Christmas this year until an unexpected turn of events lands him in a field
outside Bethlehem on the night Jesus was born. While on his journey with the
shepherds to find the promised Messiah, Jake discovers the true meaning of
Christmas. Coming this Christmas season, IT’S CHRISTMAS AGAIN is a modern-day
musical the whole family will love!
I was given the chance to check the movie out before it's release... and what a fun movie it was!
Before I started the movie, I actually didn't realize this was going to be a musical. I love a good musical, so I was thrilled when the first musical number began. I realize that musicals are not everyone's cup of tea, but I have to say that the music in this one was so fantastic that I think even non-musical fans could appreciate as well. It was modern and fun, and had some pretty amazing dance numbers as well. It was definitely a more modern-day musical that the whole family can love!
This movie follow's a teenager's journey to discover the true meaning of the season... and it was done very well. I felt like it really took some inspiration from a few other Christmas classics (both of which were mentioned as well)--- It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol. First, he travels back in time to Christmas past... just not HIS past. No, he travels all the way back to that very first Christmas. When he travels back to the present, everything is different... and we get a peek at what the world might be like if people forgot the importance of Jesus and the church. While I certainly think it gives a nod to these classic stories, it is also very much it's own story with a beautiful reminder that Jesus is the reason for the season.
Admittedly, I'm not always the biggest fan of movies set in Biblical times... they honestly just don't tend to hold my interest at all! But this was definitely an exception--- perhaps it was the musical numbers or the jokes and modern references lost on the characters, but I found it funny and entertaining...and even learned a few things too!
