AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Welcome Tanya! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and allowing my readers a chance to get to know you and your new book Escape Route.

I like to start these interviews the same way, with something fun to break the ice. Can you share 5 random facts about you that we will not find in your bio?

Ummm…no. I’m an open book. I don’t know anything that is not there. Except well…my bios can’t keep up with my grandchildren. I have a new grandchild so that makes 22 and now I’m a great grandparent with 2 great-grands.

I lived in the Middle East for 2 yrs. My husband’s job took us there and we had a wonderful time traveling. I’ve visited Egypt, Petra in Jordan, Rome, and Dubai.

We lived in New Jersey for a year preparing for our work in the Middle East and my daily view was the typical view of the New York skyline across the Hudson. It was amazing.

I’m 5ft. 2” but I think I’m 6 feet…most days anyway.

I wanted to be an Egyptologist until I figured out I could write about Egypt and wouldn’t have to get dirty.

When did you first discover you had a passion for writing?

I was eleven years old. My favorite TV program, Journey to the Bottom of the Sea, ended in a way I didn’t like so I sat down and rewrote the ending to my satisfaction.

What drew you to inspirational fiction?

I’m a Christian and I found that too many people simply did not understand my character’s motivation, especially any self-sacrificing traits. They simply didn’t get the “do unto others” rule and I realized that you can’t explain it without talking about God. Since most publisher’s didn’t want that, I turned to Inspirational fiction.

You are a full time RVer, always on the road. How has that experience made you a better writer?

Oh gosh, let me count the ways! I value family time more and more so my stories often reflect loving family relationships. Now that I’ve written close to 30 books, I find most of my inspiration in new places and situations. I also meet some very interesting people and get fresh perspectives. All of those factors make new and interesting stories.

What was the most challenging part of bringing this story to life?

Honestly, even though TJ being a helicopter pilot was a great career and the setting was interesting, I ran out of adventure and action material very quickly. I had to come up with some very unique challenges.

The most rewarding?

Coming up with those unique challenges. That’s why I love my editor so much. She pushes me to do better all the time.

Can you tell us a little bit more about Escape Route?

I have two friends who live in my motorhome park. Both are Viet Nam Veterans. One flew helicopters and the other flew jets. I loved sitting with them and listening to their flying stories so it became important to me to include a story about returning vets from that time and to get the flying details as right as I could.

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

Forgiveness is such a difficult thing. It’s easy to say but to really experience it and move on can take years. I hope they see how not forgiving, even in little ways, can hamper the future.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer these questions. Before you go, are there any other projects you are currently working on that you can share?

Yes! My next new release is called Yosemite Firestorm. It will release in April of 2023. I think you can guess what that one is about! If you’re interested in following its progress and my travels, you can join my newsletter here: https://www.subscribepage.com/c7i1q9

Thank you!
