ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Cathy McDavid

In the third grade, NY Times, USA Today, and Amazon bestselling author Cathy McDavid made it her goal to read every Black Stallion book ever written. Who knew such an illustrious ambition would eventually lead to a lifelong love of all things western, owning a stagecoach pulled by six mules, and a career writing contemporary romances for Harlequin? With over 55 titles in print and 1.6 million books sold, This “almost” Arizona native and mother of grown twins is married to her own real-life sweetheart. After leaving the corporate world eight years ago, she now spends her days penning stories about handsome cowboys riding the range, busting broncs, and sweeping gals off their feet — oops, no. Make that winning the hearts of feisty, independent women who give the cowboys a run for their money.

AUTHOR GUEST POST

Good morning!

I’m so excited to be here, celebrating the release of my first Love Inspire Suspense, WILDFIRE THREAT. This book is part of the Mountain Rescue collection and features — you got it — a story set in the mountains.

I was recently talking to someone and realized how personal and special this book is to me, and not just because it’s my first Love Inspired, though, that is pretty great. I’ve been writing for Harlequin a long time now. I admit it, I may not have to work as hard as other authors to land a new contract. My editor knows me and can depend on me to deliver a book in good shape and one time. But when the opportunity to write for this new collection came around, there was no free pass. I had to go up against a lot of other, very talented authors. Getting the call was exciting and made me feel really good. I had a story to tell, and God was giving me a chance for that and, possibly, to change the course of my writing.

In Wildfire Threat, the small mountain town of Happenstance is threatened by a raging wildfire. For many years, my family owned a quaint vacation home in Young, Arizona, a place that’s considered the most remote town in the entire state. One year, a wildfire was so close, we watched the flames and billowing smoke from our front porch. That fire inspired the book that became my first ever sale to Harlequin. About ten years ago, The Young fire came “this” close to destroying the town completely. Yes, that was the inspiration for Wildfire Threat.

My son, an avid outdoor enthusiast, helped me brainstorm the book. We had several long sessions, during which he told me my ideas wouldn’t work and gave me suggestions for ones that would. He is the source for much of my information about herding cattle, driving vehicles through rugged and burning terrain, and living off the grid. It is with much love and gratitude I dedicated the book to him.

Lastly, the heroine’s grandfather suffers from dementia. My own sweet mother, whom I lost last year, suffered from this terrible disease. It did my heart good to write about the love and devotion my heroine has for her grandfather, the tender, kind and respectful way my hero treats the older man, and how the family copes — which isn’t always easy. Creating the character of the grandfather allowed me to honor my mother in a small but meaningful way.

WILDFIRE THREAT is truly a book that is not just close to my heart, it is from my heart, which I poured onto every page. If you by chance read it, drop me a line and let me know what you thought of the book. I really enjoy hearing from readers.

  2. My dad was a Volunteer Fireman and became a Regular Fireman a few years later. Firemen have to be in excellent shape and carry and wear heavy protective equipment. I enjoy reading about those who are of service to their communities and neighborhoods.
