Make You Feel My Love

Title: Make You Feel My Love
Author: Robin Lee Hatcher
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Release Date: July 13, 2021
Genre: Christian, Contemporary Romance

One broken woman. One lost man. And the long-buried secrets tying them together.

After escaping an abusive relationship, Chelsea Spencer flees to Chickadee Creek—the town where her great aunt Rosemary owns a quaint little antique shop. There, Chelsea plans to help with the shop as her aunt heals from an accident—and perhaps find some healing of her own.

Liam Chandler was one film away from a leading role when his brother Jacob was stricken with cancer. After spending the last months of Jacob’s life with him in Boise, Liam heads to the vacation home he built outside of Chickadee Creek to get his life and his faith back on track.

While working to clean out a storage room in the antique shop, Chelsea finds an old violin. Aunt Rosemary says she may have the instrument, but they soon learn it is very valuable and once belonged to Cora Chandler, Liam’s great-great-grandmother.

Drawn together by the old violin and stories from the past, Chelsea and Liam begin to find answers for their present and the future God has in store for them.

Welcome Robin! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and allow my readers a chance to get to know you and your newest book Make You Feel My Love.

I like to start these interviews the same way, with something fun to break the ice. Can you share 5 random facts about you that we will not find in your bio.

1) When I was young, I took ballet classes for seven years and dabbled in tap as well.

2) My dad died in a plane crash when I was an infant. Growing up without a father is one reason, I believe, why I often explore both negative and positive father/child relationships in my books.

3) I began painting with oils when I was 12, and my favorite pictures to paint were images of Disney’s version of Bambi. Later, I gave up oils in favor of acrylics (they dry faster!).

4) I love word puzzles. My favorite game app on my phone is Whirly Word.

5) My mother planned to call me Phoebe right up until a couple of weeks before I was born when she met a woman whose daughter’s name was Robin Lee. Either way Mom went, I was destined to be named after a bird.

When did you first discover you had a passion and talent for writing?

Although I was always writing something from a young age, I don’t think I recognized it as a “passion” until I was 29. That’s when I began writing the story that had been churning in my head for months. It would become my first published novel.

What drew you to creating romance stories?

In my opinion, every truly great novel is about love of some kind. The love of a boy for his dog. The love of a man for the land. The love of a mother for her child. In addition, humans are wired for relationships, and we long for a lasting happily ever after (heaven!). While I don’t always write what would be considered classic romances, all of my books contain a romantic thread. It’s just what comes naturally to me.

Make You Feel My Love (like many of your other novels), is a split time novel… a style that you do beautifully! What is the most challenging part of bringing this type of story to life?

Thanks for that nice compliment. I don’t know if I would call it the most challenging part, but it is very important that both storylines have equal weight, whether or not they have equal length.

What is the best writing advice you have been given? What advice would you share with other aspiring writers?

I began my career before the internet, before email, before many writer’s organizations existed. I didn’t attend a writer’s conference until just before my seventh book released. So to be honest, I can’t answer about the best writing advice I was given. I learned mostly by trial and error and lots and lots of reading. But the best thing I’ve learned over the course of my career: Don’t compare myself to other writers; it’s unhealthy.

What advice would I share with aspiring writers? Read, read, read, and write, write, write. Read everything and write every day. If you write one page a day, you’ll have a 365 page novel at the end of a year.

When you’re not writing, you also enjoy Bible art journaling-- a topic that I’ve talked about often here on A Modern Day Fairy Tale! Can you share a bit about your experiences with that? (how you discovered it, why you enjoy it, perhaps a few of your favorite pages, etc)

I don’t recall what I was looking for on the Internet back in late 2015 when I stumbled upon the first mention of Bible art journaling, but as soon as I did, I watched countless videos on YouTube and joined the Illustrated Faith group on Facebook. I waited to begin doing it until the Inspire Bible released in early 2016. That journaling Bible contains line art in some of the margins, and I assumed I would be happy with using colored pencils on those pages. I wasn’t. It didn’t take long before I wanted to express more of what God was showing me in His word. I enjoy art journaling because it is another creative way of having a conversation with the Lord. I’m including a few of my favorite pages from that first year of Bible art journaling.

Can you tell us a little bit more about Make You Feel My Love?

This novel tells the story of two young women who rise above difficult circumstances. Both Cora and Chelsea have to rely on faith and must discover the courage within. They must learn how to be overcomers, as they are called to be.

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

I always want two take-aways from any of my books. First, I want the reader to be entertained and to close the book with a sigh of pleasure. Second, I want the reader to take a step closer to God because of something in the book and thereby to be encouraged.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer these questions. Before you go, are there any other projects you are currently working on that you can share?

As I answer your questions, I am awaiting the revisions from my editor for my summer 2022 release. Although the title has been confirmed, it’s a little too early for me to share that with readers. I can say that it’s another dual time novel with the historical story taking place during the years of WWII. In that setting, two sisters are in love with the same young man, and at least one of them makes a choice that will alter her life. Years later, in the contemporary setting, that same sister must try to keep her great-granddaughter from repeating her mistakes.
