Welcome Lisa! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and allow my readers a chance to get to know you and your newest book Begotten.

I always like to start these interviews the same way with something fun to break the ice: can you share 5 random facts about yourself that we will NOT find in your bio?

1)
I’ve been scuba-diving in the Red Sea and got the worst sunburn of my life there
2)    I’ve been to Italy five times and hope to get there again this fall (c’mon, vaccines!)
3)    I used to run a family travel blog and wanted to move my family abroad for a year or two but it never worked out/we couldn’t afford it.
4)    I “read” 99% of novels via audio books these days; too busy during the day to pick up a book and I fall asleep within 2 minutes of hitting the pillow
5)    I have a hard time focusing on writing at home. I usually have to go to the library or check into a hotel to write. I need Covid to go away so I can get back to my library routine!

When did you first discover that you had a passion and talent for writing?

It was always my easiest subject in school. In high school and college I was on the newspaper staff. But thinking I could be a “writer”? That seemed daunting. It wasn’t until I had six books out that I could even call myself one.

With over 40 books published, where do you continue to find inspiration for new stories?

It’s usually via life—stories I hear from others that pique my interest. Or nonfiction is a great tool to think about emotional, mental and spiritual issues that could make for good character fodder.

You’ve written a wide variety of stories. How does your writing process change across these various genres?

Some are a pure lark to write—time travel, light romance, children’s books. They all come rather easily to me, once I get the concepts, setting and characters down. Others are harder mental and emotional and spiritual work—like the Gifted. But the depth of the genre really impacts how long it takes and how challenging it is.

Can you tell us a little bit more about Begotten?

It’s pre-Reformation, pre-Renaissance and is about a group of spiritually gifted characters brought together to usher in change within the Church. It’s full of spiritual warfare—and is a genre-bending historical/spiritual suspense series.

Where did the inspiration for this story come from?

I’d taken a three-year break from writing after God was pretty clear I needed a “fallow season.” And after reading The Da Vinci Code (in print—and within 24 hours!) I was really taken with historical clues in ancient churches. So I started to research biblical mysteries (because while I loved setting and pace of TDVC, I didn’t want to write a heretical novel!), and my cousin mentioned the lost letters of St. Paul. Paul wrote other letters to the Corinthians (it’s mentioned in the text) but we don’t know what became of them. So I started to think about what ELSE he might’ve written and why those letters never made it into our modern Bible.

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

My goal in the series is for all readers to understand that they’re (A) spiritually gifted; (B) battling unseen enemies—whether they’re aware of it or not; and (C) incredibly loved and equipped for said battles by our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer these questions. Before you go, are there any other projects you are currently working on that you can share?

I’m working on BETRAYED and BLESSED, rewrites/edits of the next two books in the series, due out this summer and fall!
