Title: Burying Daisy Doe
Series: Star Cavanaugh Cold Case #1
Author: Ramona Richards
Publisher: Kregel Publications
Release Date: November 17, 2020
Genre: Christian Suspense

No cold case is more important than the one that destroyed her own family

Every small town has one unsolved case that haunts its memory, festering for generations below the surface with the truth of humanity's darkness. Star Cavanaugh is obsessed with the one that tore her family apart.

Over sixty years ago, Daisy Doe was murdered and discarded outside Pineville, Alabama, buried without a name or anyone to mourn her loss. When Star's father tried to solve the case, he was also killed. Now a cold-case detective with resources of her own, Star is determined to get to the bottom of both crimes. But she'll have to face an entire town locked in corruption, silence, and fear--and the same danger that took two other lives. The only people in the town she can trust are her grandmother and the charming Mike Luinetti, and both of them trust a God Star isn't sure she believes in. Can Christians so focused on the good really help her track down this evil?

With an irresistible combination of sharp suspense, faith, humor, and authentic regional flavor, Burying Daisy Doe will draw fans of Terri Blackstock, Margaret Maron, Jaime Jo Wright, and J.T. Ellison.

Hi Ramona! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and giving my readers the chance to get to know you and your new book- Burying Daisy Doe a little bit better!  I like to start these interviews the same way with something fun to break the ice: can you share 5 random facts about yourself that we will NOT find in your bio?

1.
I love collecting art from local artists, and I miss going to art crawls and local galleries. I also have some nice science fiction-based pieces as well. One of my favorites portrays a musketeer rising from the pages of a book.
2
.    One of my bucket list items is to drive the Lincoln Highway from east to west.
3.    The only decorating I do for Christmas is to hang a simple nativity plaque on my front door, but I leave Christmas ornaments dangling about the house (from doorknobs, etc.) all year long.
4.    I despise talking on the telephone, and I will not answer unknown numbers or unplanned business calls.
5.    I have a weakness for strawberry…anything.

Let’s talk writing! You started writing at a young age, getting your first typewriter at age 10, do you remember any of those early stories?

Absolutely! In fact, I still have a few of them in a box. The early ones were clear rip-offs of juvenile mysteries: Robin Kane, Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden. I started writing historical romances in junior high, probably influenced by Georgette Heyer, and science fiction in my late teens. It was all a learning ground.

You have experienced many great opportunities and taken on many various roles in your life… how have all of those experiences made you a better writer?

All of life is fodder for writing. The different experiences taught me to see things from alternate points of view and that people react uniquely to any one event.

What drew you to the suspense genre?

This goes far enough back that I’m not quite sure. Mysteries and suspense books have always fascinated me. As a reader, those and science fiction have always been my reading “candy.” I read a lot of gothic novels as a teen. I’m a bit of a sucker for a good damsel in distress . . . especially one that can get out of trouble on her own.

What type of research goes into creating these stories?

It depends on the story. For Daisy, I did a lot of research into the history of bootlegging, money laundering and counterfeiting, cold case investigations, and interagency cooperation on large multi-location criminal activity.

Can you tell us a little bit about Burying Daisy Doe?

Every small town has one unsolved case that haunts its memory, festering for generations below the surface with the truth of humanity’s darkness. Star Cavanaugh is obsessed with the one that tore her family apart.

Over sixty years ago, Daisy Doe was murdered and discarded outside Pineville, Alabama, buried without a name or anyone to mourn her loss. But she’ll have to face an entire town locked in corruption, silence, and fear—and the same danger that took two other lives.

The only people in town she can trust are her grandmother and the charming Mike Luinetti, and both of them trust a God Star isn’t sure she believes in. Can Christians so focused on the good really help her track down this evil?

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

I hope they will take away a sense of hope, that Star’s journey through the book reminds us that God is always with us on our paths, no matter how thorny or rocky they get.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer these questions. Before you go, are there any other projects you are currently working on that you can share?

Kregel (Daisy’s publisher) has asked for a proposal on book 2 of the series, and I’ve worked on that, as well as two other series—and a romance! I love the romance I’ve written and I hope it finds a publisher soon. It’s a delightful love story . . . but, of course, there’s a mystery and a lot of intriguing involved.
