Life has been comfortable for the Miller family. Liz and Josh have devoted their lives to raising their two sons. Their oldest son, Colby, reached adulthood and set out on his own. A few hard knocks sent him back to live with Mom and Dad until life got to be too much, that is. As Liz and Josh grapple with the hole in their hearts left by Colby’s early departure from this world, they find themselves at odds with one another and with their faith.

Will they remember that Jesus is enough in the middle of this dark storm? Will they see through their own pain and help each other and their teenage son, Tyler, learn to live despite the grief?

Hi Regina! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and giving my readers the chance to get to know you and your new book- We Go On a little bit better!  I always like to start these interviews the same way with something fun! Tell us 5 random facts about you we WON’T find in your bio.
I am incredibly indecisive.
I rearrange rooms in my house when I’m procrastinating.
Shampooing the carpet makes me very happy.
I cannot burn candles. They really mess with my breathing.
I have a salt lamp on my side of the bed.

Let’s talk writing! On your website you say that you always enjoyed writing, but what inspired the decision to pursue it professionally?

When I drafted my first novel ten years ago, I was in the middle of a rough divorce. I was writing because it’s what I do when my emotions are haywire. I wanted to be published but I let that dream go in pursuit of other things. This year, when God gave me the word obedience for the year, I knew immediately I was to get back to writing, and I knew which book to write. While writing We Go On, God gave me the idea for the next book (which is in progress).

With 7 kids plus all your various animals, life sounds pretty busy! How do you find the time to make writing a priority? What does that routine look like for you?

I participate in the NaNoWriMo camps and November event, which helps really spur me on. I also have a dear friend that I write with ~5 days a week. We meet up on Discord and run writing sprints to really make us focus during the hour we spend together. Also, it’s 4:00 am right now, and I woke up an hour ago and couldn’t go back to sleep. I try to find little windows of time to make the most of.

We Go On is your first book! Congrats! What was your reaction to finding out it was going to be published and seeing your words in print for the first time?

Thank you. It was a little surreal… okay, it was a lot surreal when it released digitally. I cry every time I receive another review and see how it is touching people. When my box of paperback copies arrived… I think that really solidified in my mind that I did it. I was on cloud nine and I was bawling.
Can you tell us a little bit about We Go On?

This story really digs into the grief of losing someone unexpectedly. Josh, Liz, and Tyler weren’t prepared for Colby to take his own life, and they really struggle with what moving forward looks like. Grief comes with anger, numbness, blame (of self or others, or both), guilt, and more. As they navigate all of these overwhelming feelings, they wrestle with each other, and they wrestle with God. This is a book of finding hope even in the worst situation life threw at them, but it doesn’t come easy.
What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

That there is hope in the midst of grief and that we can move forward from our most painful losses.

We Go On sounds like a fantastic (and important) read, it has definitely made its way to my TBR. I have found that writers are often some of the best readers as well. If we were to take a look at your own TBR, what would we find there?

I hope you get a chance to read it and that you enjoy it. I recommend tissues and your favorite comfort tea, especially as you navigate the early chapters. On my nightstand, I have The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace and Wild at Heart by John Eldredge. I also have A Teacher’s Prayer and Happenstance by Tammy Mentzer Brown. I just finished Jenny Knipfer’s series, By the Light of the Moon. I have four bookshelves packed with books (ranging from homeschool curriculum, to children’s books, to my own books). Not to mention what is on my Kindle.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer these questions. Before you go, are there any other projects you are currently working on that you can share?

Thank you for having me today. I’ve really enjoyed this interview! My next novel, Still With Us, is about a young lady who is allowing herself to be treated badly and to be drug into some yucky situations. As she and her mom begin unpacking how they got there, it is seen how things sometimes are passed on from generation to generation. This is another heavy read as it deals with all kinds of abuse and substance use. I hope to be releasing this one in October.
