Poverty and abuse were tough to overcome, but it was the crushing loss of my seven-year-old niece to cancer that finally humbled me enough to listen to God when He spoke into my shattered heart, “Give it up.” Without the chains of fear and insecurity, I followed my spirit’s instruction to speak freely. That led to over 100 million video views, and nearly half a million social media followers. My story has been a true reflection of “beauty for ashes". We all are quite familiar with this line from Proverbs 31, aren't we? Like many women, that is something that I strive for... in fact I even have a cross up in my home with these words as a reminder. But let's be honest, laughing without fear can be quite tough. Life has a way of making that a lot more difficult. If you find that you have a hard time laughing in the midst of life's troubles, this is a book that is certainly worth checking out.
Now, I must admit that at the time of writing this review, I've not yet completely finished reading the book, but I've read enough to get a good idea on how I feel about it... and I am truly enjoying it so far. The author perfectly blends real life stories with scriptural references in a way that will give you ALL the feels--- laughter, tears, it's all there.
As someone who struggles with mental health issues, I'm always a little weary of books covering the topics of fear and anxiety. There is a stigma that goes along with these issues that is strong in the Christian community. Some believe it to be a lack of faith rather than a medical condition. I really appreciated the openness in which the author discusses her own issues and reminds readers that it is just like any other illness.
Overall, this is a good read and one that many women will both relate to and find helpful. It is definitely worth checking out.
