Everything changed for Esther Miller with the death of her beloved fiancé, Jacob. Even years later, she still struggles with her faith and purpose in the small, tight-knit Amish village of Honey Brook—especially now that her younger sister is getting married. All she wants is to trust in the Lord to help her find peace...but peace is the last thing she gets when Lucas, Jacob’s wayward older brother, returns to town.

Lucas Brenneman has been harboring a secret for years—the real reason he never returned from Rumspringa and the truth behind his brother Jacob’s death. Honey Brook still calls to him, but he knows his occupation as a physician’s assistant must take precedence. With sweet and beautiful Esther he finds a comfort he’s never known, and he feels like anything is possible...even forgiveness. But she was Jacob’s bride-to-be first. And if she knew the truth, would she ever truly open her heart to him?

USA Today bestselling author Ophelia London brings a sweet, heartfelt, and surprisingly funny take to the popular Amish romance cannon.

Hi Ophelia! Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions and giving my readers the chance to get to know you and your newest novel- Never an Amish Bride- a little bit better. I always like to begin these interviews the same way with something fun… tell us 5 random facts about yourself that we WON’T find in your bio!

Heeeey!! I’m so happy to be on your blog today. Woot!

1.    During the shelter in place, I learned how to bake bread—which I’d never, ever done before!
2.    I used to be addicted to Diet Coke, but then my doctor said I had to get off the caffeine. (Gah!!) Now I enjoy an ice-cold Gatorade at least once a day. And lots of water, of course!
3.    I want baby goats like no body’s business. There are two scenes in Never an Amish Bride that satisfy that obsession. 😊
4.    When Congresswoman AOC started getting lots of news time, I became obsessed with her lipstick, so I finally Googled what she used, then immediately bought it. I love it!!! (Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in “beso.”)
5.    Yes, I know it’s probably in my bio, and it’s for sure on my Facebook page, but I am IN LOVE with my Italian Greyhound mix, Peanut. I have a husband and all that, but seriously, Peanut is the love of my life. She’s the cutest, sweetest, most adorable puppy in the whole wide world! (Yes, I’m probably a little bias!)

Let’s talk writing! When did you first realize that you had a passion for telling stories?

Fun question! Way back in high school, I knew I was pretty good at being creative. Then when I got to college, I had a very supportive professor who really helped me learn how to write long fiction. Shout out to, Professor Brown at Chico State!

Your website intro is one of the best I’ve seen: ‘THE CHARACTERS I WRITE MAKE OUT A LOT AND WHO AM I TO STOP THEM? CUPCAKES ROCK.’ I absolutely love it! Naturally, this leads me to ask the most important question of all: what is your absolute favorite cupcake?

Oh man, that’s a tough one! Well, you can never go wrong with chocolate. My absolute favorite bakery (which is now closed!) makes a killer chocolate ganache cupcake with white cream filling. It’s basically like an Amish whoopie pie!

Can you tell us a little bit about Never an Amish Bride?

Sure! It’s the story about two lovely people (Esther & Lucas) who grew up together, kinda secretly crushed on each other, then Lucas left home at sixteen for his Amish Rumspringa, but didn’t return home for another ten years. A lot happened in that decade, but due to circumstances, they each are desperate for information from each other—which isn’t allowed in their strict Amish community. So, there’s a lot of sneaking around, whispering and little white lies. And when they start to fall in love…oooh, it’s just so yummy!

Never an Amish Bride is your first Amish romance. What drew you to this genre?
Well, my sister lives in Hershey, PA, which basically bumps up against Lancaster County, one of the largest Amish communities in the US. I’ve always loved visiting the charming little shops and the gorgeous farms. But it wasn’t until my editor and I talked about, “What if I wrote an Amish romance…?” that I’d ever thought about it. And I’m so glad I did!

What type of research went into creating this story and keeping true to the Amish culture?
I read A LOT of books, watched tons of documentaries (most of which I watched with a grain of salt!), and of course visited Amish Country. I also talked at length with a woman who grew up with an Amish family, she and one of the daughters are still best friends. She was able to debunk a lot of the “myths” I assumed about this lovely culture.

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

I honestly do hope readers come away with a slightly more “normal” opinion of the Amish. They really are just hard-working, family-loving people. Seriously, the more I learned, the more I learned to love them!

It sounds like a fantastic story, and I cannot wait to read it myself. I have found that writers are so often some of the best readers too. If we were to take a look at your own TBR, what might we find there?

Oh, goodness! Right now, you’ll find a lot of biographies. I’ve been dying to read Michelle Obama’s. I had it on audiobook to “read” during my long commute, but then Covid messed that up, and I’ve been working for home ever since. Boo!

Thank you again for taking the time to answer my questions. Before we go, can you give us an idea on what we can look forward to next? Any other projects you are currently working on that you can share?

I’ve had a ball. Thank you so much for having me! I’m currently working on the follow up to Never an Amish Bride. It’s the second book in the series called, The Amish Cowboy’s Homecoming. I’m still fleshing out the basic story, but guys, it’s going to be so yummy!!
