Hi Dana! Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions and giving my readers the chance to get to know you and your newest novel- Plain Refuge- a little bit better. I always like to begin these interviews the same way with something fun… tell us 5 random facts about yourself that we WON’T find in your bio!
·
I love singing. I have sung all my life in choir and in church. I’m an alto. When I was a kid, my best friend and I used to sing out my bedroom window, serenading my family.·         I am a huge Jane Austen fan and have read all the books and seen all the movies.·         I have always had a secret desire to sing the role of Eponine from Les Miserables on stage. However, since I’m getting older and only 4 foot 9, I don’t think it will ever happen.·         I have a horrible fear of flying. I still fly to writing events when I must, though.·         I have three brothers, two older and one younger. I always wanted a sister, and in elementary school, I used to write stories about how my twin sister was stolen at birth.

Let’s talk writing! When did you first discover a passion for writing and did you always know that it was something you wanted to pursue professionally?

I loved writing from early on. It wasn’t until I was in sixth grade and read The Outsiders that I thought of writing a book. When I realized it was written by a 17 year old girl, I decided I’d write a book one day too. Of course, it didn’t happen for many years. The dream never left. It was just tucked away until I felt God telling me it was time.

While I enjoy typical Amish fiction some in general, I find Amish suspense tends to be my favorite among them. What attracted you to this genre as a writer?

My editor knew that I lived near several Amish communities. She asked me to consider writing Amish suspense. My first reaction was no. But the idea wouldn’t let me go. I felt that it was something I was supposed to do. I found, to my surprise, that I really enjoyed adding Amish elements and characters into my stories.

What type of research goes into creating this type of story and keeping accurate to the Amish lifestyle and culture?

My favorite type of research is visiting Amish communities. There’s so much to learn, and each community has its unique qualities. I also have several Amish friends that I go to with my questions. I also read books and newspapers written about or by Amish people. Finally, I do some research and checking on the internet.

Can you tell us a little bit about Plain Refuge?

Sure! I loved writing this book. Here’s the back blurb:
After overhearing an illegal weapons deal, Sophie Larson knows two things: Her uncle’s a dangerous criminal… and he wants her dead. Now undercover cop Aiden Forster has no choice but the blow his cover and protect Sophie by hiding her and her deaf sister in Amish country. But with a mole in the police force, danger isn’t far behind.

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?
God is bigger than any circumstance. And no matter how grim, He is always there

Plain Refuge is the 8th book in your Amish Country Justice series. Will readers who have not yet read books 1-7 be able to understand this story on its own, or will they need backstory from the previous books?

Although it’s the 8
th book under the Amish Country Justice umbrella, it’s a stand alone story.

It sounds like a fantastic story, and I cannot wait to read it myself. I have found that writers are so often some of the best readers too. If we were to take a look at your own TBR, what might we find there?

Oh my! I have so many books on my list! Here are just a few of them.

·         Reunion at the Shore by Lee Tobin McClain
·         End Game by Rachel Dylan
·         Texas Twin Abduction by Virginia Vaughan
·         Submerged by Dani Pettrey
·         True to You by Becky Wade

Thank you again for taking the time to answer my questions. Before we go, can you give us an idea on what we can look forward to next? Any other projects you are currently working on that you can share?

Absolutely!
I am working on a new book with Love Inspired Suspense. It will be out in 2021. I am also working on two novellas. One will be included in the Amish Christmas Miracles collection with 13 other authors in November. The second novella is a romantic suspense involving Sgt. Claire Zerosky and Sgt. Ryder Howard, two characters from my earlier books. This novella will be available sometime this summer as a free download to newsletter subscribers. I can’t wait!  Thank you so much for having me!
