Jesus Calling For Christmas {A Book Review}

A few days ago my five year old came to me with a question.

"How can I talk to God when he doesn't answer? I can't hear him."

Oh sweet child... how does one even begin to answer a question like that? I did my best to explain that God DOES answer, just not in the way that you and I do...She seemed content with that answer for now (or had at least moved on from the topic by that time) but I'm not going to lie, I'm sure I did not answer it as adequately as I could have.

I think this is a concept that many of us have a hard time wrapping our minds around. If God could speak to us more directly... what might He say? I think this question is exactly what the Jesus Calling series by Sarah Young has been such a huge hit in the Christian world... and today, I'm excited to share the newest addition to the series just in time for the holidays, Jesus Calling for Christmas:

Are your holidays too hectic? Take a few minutes to savor the season with this beautiful Christmas edition of Jesus Calling®devotions, a perfect gift that includes 50 short selections along with festive and breathtaking imagery.
Jesus Calling® for Christmas is a compilation of 50 seasonally appropriate devotions from Sarah Young's bestselling brand. In addition to the heartwarming devotions, enjoy the Christmas story from the Bible, Old Testament prophecies about the birth of Jesus, and exquisite images.
Whether a self-purchase to enhance your observation of Advent and the birth of the Christ child or a natural gift for friends and loved ones, Jesus Calling® for Christmas will prove an annual treasure for celebrating the season.

First and foremost, this book is gorgeous! The cover is simple and festive, and that theme continues with each page featuring a variety of stunning images perfect for the season--- snowy landscapes, stunning cranberries, twinkling Christmas lights, etc. It's definitely one of those books that you are going to want to leave sitting on the coffee table all season long to go back and look at time and time again.

But it's not just the images you will fall in love with, but the words as well. It is packed absolutely full of scripture--- moreso scriptures than devotions it seems. Some of these are the verses we have come to associate with the Christmas season, while others so perfectly get us into that spirit as the day draws near. The devotions themselves are short, but still thought provoking--- making them easy to read and ponder during this oh so busy holiday season.

If you already love the Jesus Calling series, you will certainly love this one too. It is the same style that we have come to expect, just in a fun and festive Christmas package. The Christmas fanatic in me is absolutely loving it. Still I know many others aren't as comfortable with the Jesus Calling series. As I said, each devotion is written as though Jesus is speaking to us, and some feel as though this is un-biblical. We all have to make that decision for ourselves of course, but personally, I feel as though it is a great read... so long as we remember that these words ARE written by a human, and to always put the Bible first and foremost. I think if we look at it from that perspective, we can enjoy it for the creative devotions they were intended to be.

Not only is this a great book to read yourself, but it makes a great gift too! It is available to purchase now at your favorite Christian book retailers.

  2. Beautiful coffee table book. I’ve had a couple of morning devotionals by Sarah Young and have been blessed by them through different seasons. This Christmas book has been a great devotional to enjoy with a cup of coffee in the morning by the fire.
