Every month when I open the Illustrated Faith Devotional Kits, I get a little rush of excitement. Generally speaking, as a member of the Launch Team, I don't see any previews before it arrives so it's always a bit of a surprise. I love picking out each piece and trying to brainstorm clever ideas to put each and every element into use.

One of the most fun additions to the Revival Camp kits were the patches. They are gorgeous. I knew I wanted to come up with an extra special way to use these. And so I brainstormed. I questioned, 'Where do you USUALLY put camp patches as kids?'

On your favorite denim shorts, of course!

So, I decided to have a little fun and give one of my journaling Bibles a little summer camp makeover. Today, I'm sharing how I did it!

DIY Camp Denim Bible Cover

  • Old Pair of Jeans
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue
  • Revival Camp Patches
  1. The first step is getting the jeans cut. I found the easiest way to do this was to take the Bible (or journal) I was using and slide it into the leg. This insured that the piece I cut was the right size. I then cut a sleeve from that leg--- with just a little bit of room on each side, Bible still inside. I left one seam remaining, and cut the other off, again making sure to leave enough enough fabric to fold under. This long piece of fabric will be your main cover.
  2. I then cut out the pocket. You will want the entire pocket--- both layers of denim, keeping it an actual functioning pocket. Cut as close to the seams as possible.
  3. Now comes the fun part... covering the Bible. I used hot glue, but you could probably use a fabric glue or something similar, but you'll want to it be strong enough to hold the denim. Lay out the long piece of denim you previously cut, and line up your Bible. Attach with hot glue, leaving the edges loose.
  4. Fold the edges under and glue securely. You'll want enough fabric that you can pull tightly, but not too much where there is a lot of bulk. Do this for front and back covers. For the binding, I just trimmed these as short as possible. (If you would prefer to make a cover that can be removed, Google 'fabric book covers'... this is another super simple, less permanent option. You will however need more fabric for this option.
  5. Next, I glued on the pocket, paying close attentions that the edges were secure.
  6. Finally, it was time to add the patches. You can use all of them, or just your favorites... play around and find the layout you like best. Again attach with hot glue. (Be sure to avoid the pocket opening, of course!)

Seriously, how absolutely adorable is this Bible now? I had been looking for some way to cover this particular Bible anyway, and this turned out to be the perfect solution! I love that not only does it have a fun summer camp look... it's also really useful too! I can carry my favorite pens and other smaller supplies right in the pocket! Doing your Revival Camp journaling in a separate journal? This works for that too, though I do suggest using a hardcover for best results!
