Getting Kids Into the Bible {+ A Museum of the Bible Giveaway} #HolidayGiftGuide2017

Do your kids enjoy the Bible?

To be honest, for many kids, reading in general, and especially reading the Bible can be... well, let's just say it's not at the top of their WANT to do list. Perhaps it's that whole idea that kids would rather do anything than the things that they know that they should do. Chores? Don't wanna! Eat veggies? Don't wanna! Pick up their bedroom? Don't wanna. Well, you get the idea... in many ways, kids want to do exactly the opposite of what their parents tell them to do. Or at least mine do!

Aside from that, the Bible can be a lot of history too, which is great for kids that love history, but for kids who find history a bore...eh, not so much! So, how do you get kids actually excited about the Bible? Today I'm sharing a few tips:
  • Find the right Bible. There are so many Bible to meet every child's interests, so find one that draws them in!
  • Lead by example. Kids might not want to listen to their parents, but they do watch them. If they see YOU reading your Bible, it will just become something more natural to them.
  • Bring It To Life. Whether it's finger puppets, a movie or arts and crafts, bring the stories to life for your children so that they can better learn what the Bible is truly about.
  • Make It Fun. The Bible is most certainly to be taken seriously, but that doesn't mean it's ALL serious. Whether its comics or weird and unusual facts, keep it light and fun. They'll still be learning, but in a way that is interesting to THEM. Will they get all the details yet? Perhaps not just yet, but it will create a love of the Bible in them that will stay with them as they grow.

When it comes to making learning the Bible more fun for children, there are many great books that can help. In fact, Worthy Publishing has partnered with the new Museum of the Bible to create creative books that help readers engage with the Bible. Today, I'm excited to share with you the first four new books from this fabulous series.

About the books
:
  • Children of the World Storybook Bible (hardcover; ages 5 to 8; 256 pgs): A unique storybook Bible that pairs one hundred best-loved Bible stories with artwork from children in over sixty countries around the world
  • What’s the Bible All About? (board book; ages 2 to 5): This powerful introduction gives young children a “big picture” understanding of the Bible—from what it is, to how it was written, to the stories it tells.
  • Wild and Wacky Things in the Bible (paperback; ages 6 to 9; 160 pgs): This book explores the story behind weird and wacky Bible happenings with intriguing facts and bold artwork.
  • That’s So Weird! (paperback; ages 5 to 8; 112 pgs): Geared to emerging readers, this fun and fascinating book of trivia teaches young children about the whos, whats, and whys of the Bible with a colorful, graphic feel.

First up, the Storybook Bible. We have many great storybooks in our collection, but I loved that this one had illustrations by actual children! It makes it so much more personal. My kids loved it too. As we looked, I would share with them where the child was from who drew it, and it gave us a fun new way to talk about these new and interesting places along the way. And of course, like all good storybook Bibles, it put these beloved stories into a way that kids can truly understand and learn even at a very young age.

My daughter was first drawn to the 'What's the Bible All About?' book. This short little board book is a great introduction to the Bible. Kids might know individual stories from the Bible, but I love that this (in a very simple way), explains the bigger picture of the Bible.

For my son, it was all about 'Wild and Wacky Things in the Bible' and 'That's So Weird!'. He's a 10 year old boy, so wacky and weird? Well, that's just right up his alley. The wackier and weirder the better.  These might be a little below his reading level, but he enjoyed them nonetheless. He loved learning these more obscure details  and fun stuff that go beyond the stories and the lessons themselves. It will help kids to realize that the Bible is NOT boring at all, but does in fact have a lot of intriguing information too.

All of these books are gorgeously illustrated and draw kids of ALL ages into the Bible in a way that makes most sense to them. There truly is a little something for every child, and I for one cannot wait to see what comes next!

  5. My kids are always asking for different types of books about the Bible for themselves; every child learns differently so, I like how these give different styles. Michelle Catallo ~ bonita7878(at)yahoo(dot)com / stating this because entry versus comment area is different
