Self Feeding Made Easy with NumNum {Review & Giveaway}

**Product received for review.

When we started Finley on foods, we opted to do a bit of a moderated version of 'baby led weaning'. The concept behind baby led weaning is that baby feeds themselves- they eat when they are ready and only as much as they want. As a mom who already nurses on demand, this concept seemed like the perfect continuation. However, typically baby led weaning tends to skip over pureed foods entirely, going straight for soft, bite sized pieces. Honestly, I wasn't sure I wanted to skip them entirely, but I still wanted to allow her to feed herself. We tried giving her a spoon, and while she loved playing around with that, handling a spoon is not easy for a 6-7 month old. I searched and searched for a spoon that would be easy to control and came up empty handed.

Until I discovered NumNum! The NumNum was created by a mom to fill that void in the market- a utensil allowing baby to learn to self-feed before they are ready and able to use a spoon!

So, what makes them so great?
  • Contoured Handle. This handle is perfectly designed to be held easily and comfortably by baby. It is the perfect size for little hands.
  • Flat Head. Unlike spoons which need to be held right side up to avoid messes and insure the food actually makes it into baby's mouth, this innovative flat designs means there is no right or wrong way to hold it, making it much easier for baby to learn.
  • Soft Texture. Perfect for soothing sore gums.
  • Channeled & Dimpled Heads. Each package comes with two different dippers. The orange channeled head works great for capturing and holding onto thicker first foods, where the blue dimpled head is ideal for thinner foods. These unique shapes help hold food without requiring the coordination of filling a spoon...just dip and eat!

Finley could not wait to try her NumNums out for herself, and she was certainly a fan. She loves that she can actually get the food from her bowl to her mouth. I will not say that it eliminates the mess completely, but at least more food is getting into her mouth and a bit less on her too! These are seriously genius. Finley now has two sets, and I plan to buy more. Forget baby spoons, these are a MUST for this mama.

But it's not just for eating that we've found these to be useful. They are also amazing for teething. Honestly, we use them more for teething than eating. They are so much easier for my baby girl to hold onto than typical teething toys and seem to be her preferred choice as well. I've found myself carrying one in my purse to have when we need it out and about. I LOVE them!
