If you were to ask every cloth diapering mama you knew what their absolute favorite cloth diaper was, chances are you'll hear a LOT of different answers, because well, each diaper works differently for each individual. But in my research to find the best cloth diaper on the market, there were a few names that kept showing up again and again...one of these was Thirsties! So, I was beyond thrilled when they sent me one of their One Size Pocket Diapers to review. It took only one use for this to become my favorite pocket diaper so far! Let's take a look at a few features that I loved...

Design & Function

For many, pocket diapers are the perfect diaper. They are easy to use, you can customize absorbency to meet babies needs, dry fast, etc. Sound great, right? Before my daughter made her arrival, I just knew that they would be our favorites as well. But to be honest, I have been a little disappointed with most that we tried. We couldn't find many that really offered a great fit or just worked wonderfully for my daughter compared to all in twos or all in ones. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Thirsties One Size Pocket worked very well for her. Absolutely no leaks, thanks to the wonderful leg gussets. They are one size, fitting babies from 8-40 pounds and fit my chunky little 5 month old quite well.

Absorbency

Each diaper includes two inserts- a full size 5 layer hemp cotton and a newborn 3 layer of microfiber. Each insert can be used on its own, or snapped together for added absorbency. If you've not yet used hemp inserts I'm here to tell you that it's time to change that! I'll admit, I was skeptical that an insert that seemed so thin could really be that absorbent...but it truly is! Personally, I like using both doubled up. I put the microfiber on top since it absorbs faster, with the much more absorbent hemp cotton below. Using this combination worked perfectly for us! As I've said, we didn't have the greatest luck with most pocket diapers in the past. This was especially true for nighttime diapers. No matter how I stuffed, they just didn't seem to do the trick...until this one! It actually has worked better for nights than anything else we've used in the past!

Laundry

One major downfall of pockets for many is having to remove the soiled inserts. It's not a particularly fun part of cloth diapering, right? But one of the great features of the one size pocket is that there is no need to remove them, they agitate out in the wash! Honestly, I was a little skeptical that this would really work or that the inserts would get cleaned this way, but for the sake of review I tried it out. Sure enough, they do!! Obviously, if using both snapped together they'll remain snapped during the wash, but I did not have issues with this affecting their cleanliness either. This certainly makes for a quicker laundry routine...and as busy moms, that's always a plus!!

I will add that there IS a bit more work required when prepping the hemp inserts than microfiber. They require THREE washes, separately before ready to use. But the extra work is certainly worth the extra absorbency in my opinion. (And can be washed normally after the initial prep!)

Style

Finally, I love all the fun colors and prints available. The Polka Dance I received is absolutely adorable. It does have just a bit of pink, but I think it could work well for boy or girl! Since receiving the review diaper, I also added two more to our stash in Rose and Black Bird. All three are adorable. The colors are bright and vibrant and look adorable on my little miss. I cannot wait to add more!!

Overall, I am VERY impressed with the Thirsties One Size Pocket. They're super cute, super absorbent and fit wonderfully. They've managed to work their way into our cloth diaper top five, and are there to stay I'm sure! But of course, this is only one of the great diapers available from Thirsties. 5. Wait. Wait. Wait. WHAT. Did I read that right? Each Thirsties pocko comes with a five layer hemp insert?! SERIOUSLY? Why have the other diaper companies not caught onto this greatness yet? I'm SO sick of microfiber inserts coming with everything. We have hundreds that we can't use for anything because my kid pees right through them. But this . . . well this is worth a second glance!

  52. I had a whole stash of pocket diapers that didn't end up fitting our little one correctly, either. In the end, we switched to flats and covers, because we were tired of the leaks. I have not tried the Thirsties pocket diapers, though. I find it interesting that the Thirsties pockets have two vertical snaps, but my covers (which I do like!) have two horizontal snaps at the waist.
