Here at A Modern Day Fairy Tale, I'm excited to offer an amazing prize for all the breastfeeding/soon to be breastfeeding mommies out there: a set of Tendher Pillows and Pillowcases from Pariday!!

As huge of a supporter as I am for breastfeeding, I'm also the first to admit that it does come with its challenges-sore nipples, plugged ducts, mastitis, cracked nipples, engorgement, a poor latch and more. With my son, he was a champion nurser from day one- perfect latch, loved to nurse- no real problems whatsoever in the beginning. Still, that first week or so was at times quite painful as my body adjusted. I was thrilled when I discovered Tendher Nursing Pillows, and they agreed to let me review them with baby #2!!

Having already been through this once, I knew to expect the discomforts in the first several days as I had experienced with my son...but this time around was a completely new experience. Like her big brother, Finley took to nursing right away! She had a great latch, nursed often and impressed all the nurses and lactation consultant with how well she took to it. All great news!! A few days later, my milk came in. Holy engorgement!! My lactation consultant had warned me that many mothers found it to be worse the second time around....and she was RIGHT! It was awful, and led to latch issues (temporary thankfully), which led to even more pain. It was a short lived ordeal, but my Tendher Nursing Pillows became my best friends during those few days!!

So what are Tendher Nursing Pillows? Here is a little information directly from the company:

Our unique system combines soothing soft-touch pillows with our washable, re-usable pillowcases. The pillows are filled with cool-on-contact gel made with vegetarian food ingredients, and pillowcases wick away moisture while preventing minor leaks. Pillows may be warmed or cooled for desired temperature, or even feel great at room temperature!

At this point I have only used the pillows for cold relief, and they have been wonderful. The first thing I noticed was how thin they are...no bulky ice packs stuffed into your bra! They fit discreetly so I could wear them even when we had company over without worrying about looking silly or added extra bulk. Unlike other cold packs-even others designed for the same purpose- they remain soft and moldable, making them much more comfortable to wear and again discreet!! And they cool very quickly- twenty minutes in the freezer and they are ready to go...when you're in pain, you don't want to be waiting all day so this is a great feature! The pillowcases are made of an extremely soft material that does not stick to the skin (ouch!), which is another great feature- there is nothing worse than rough materials rubbing an already very tender area!

The only real downfall I could find is that they don't last forever and can dry out over time- as early as one month in the worst of conditions. If they are kept in a cool, moist environment (such as the fridge), they can last up to a few months. This is because of the natural food ingredients and minimal preservatives used. This also makes them safe for mom and baby!! With the relief they provide and all the other great features, this is honestly not a breaking point for me at all. In my previous experience, I have found that most breastfeeding discomforts will pass in a short time anyway, and these will last long enough to get you through. And at just $25, they wouldn't be too much to replace if needed later on. Overall, I am beyond thrilled with the Tendher Nursing Pillows and will be recommending them to all expectant mommies who intend to breastfeed. They are a must have for new moms!
