Who I Am With You by Jennifer Carr: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

She was forced to perform before she learned how to live.

He lived under the weight of demons and expectations.

After a devastating loss, Lanie Tisdale is shaped into a product the world can consume—her voice celebrated, her choices erased. Walking away from the life built for her is the first real decision she’s ever made… and the most dangerous.

Charles Young has spent his life carrying a famous name and impossible expectations. When the carefully constructed version of his life collapses, he’s forced to confront who he is without the spotlight—and what he’s already lost.

Drawn together inside an industry that profits from illusion, Lanie and Charles find something rare and risky: honesty. But when control, rumor, and old wounds resurface, choosing each other means first choosing themselves.

Who I Am With You is a raw, intimate story about reclaiming identity, surviving manipulation, and discovering a love that doesn’t demand perfection—only truth.

The Author

Jennifer Carr is a romance author, lifelong daydreamer, and psychology nerd turned author.

A degree in Psychology, a Master’s in Marriage & Family Counseling, multiple certifications in life/wellness coaching and brain health, and years teaching AP Psychology gave her a deep understanding of people—but it was writing that finally gave her a way to share their stories.

What started as a curiosity (“I wonder how that dream was going to end?”) quickly turned into something bigger. One book became several. Passion became purpose. And a new career was born.

Married to her childhood best friend and raising a creative daughter on their quiet Alabama farm, Jennifer writes emotional, character-driven fiction with heart, healing, no spice, and just the perfect amount of swoon.

When she’s not writing, you’ll find her reading romance novels, listening to music, baking something delicious, or sipping strong coffee with her cat nearby.

Book Review

I love a good musician romance, so I've definitely been drawn to this series about a country music television competition. And while this is only the second of the series that I have read, these stories did not disappoint. Charles and Lanie's story very quickly drew me in. These are two characters who have seen the downfalls of the music industry, him with addiction and her with being under control of others... among other things. I thought it was a great portrayal of the not so glamourous parts, which also gave us beautiful moments of redemption and healing for them both. And together? Oh, I adored them. They had a really easy chemistry between them and while theirs was definitely a slower burn, the payoff was absolutely worth it. This story took me on a roller coaster of emotions, and I enjoyed every moment.

Who I Am With You is a closed-door romance with kisses only and minimal minor language. It is the sixth book in the Real American Country series. I personally had only read one of the previous books and I found I was able to enjoy this one just fine as a standalone.
