As Christian parents, it's always great when you can discover children's entertainment that is fun for them... while also keeping Christ at the center of it all. Several years ago, we were introduced to a fun book series by one of the co-creators of VeggieTales, Mike Nawrocki: The Dead Sea Squirrels.
About the series:
The Dead Sea Squirrels follows 10-year-old Michael and Merle and Pearl, two squirrels who were preserved in Dead Sea salt for 2,000 years. After being brought back to Tennessee and unexpectedly revived, the squirrels use their firsthand knowledge of Jesus’ teachings to help Michael and his friends navigate modern-day challenges.
My children enjoyed the early books in the series and were surprised to discover that in addition to the book series with 13 books currently release and book fourteen- Field Day Frenzy- releasing October 6), there is now an animated series as well. Season one premiered February 14, 2025, exclusively on Minno. This thirteen-episode season has episodes centered around a biblical lesson or passage and features themes such as kindness, diligence, honesty, mercy, self-control, overcoming worry, trusting God, Jesus’ birth, baptism, the Kingdom of God, the Last Supper and the Resurrection.

Talk about an impressive lineup for fans of CCM!! We were recently given the chance to check out the soundtrack for ourselves and having still never watched even one episode of the show, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. And truth be told, my daughter is on the older end of the intended audience for this one... but we found these songs super fun just the same. The perfect way for young audiences to be reminded of these important biblical messages after the credits roll... and without needing to be glued to a screen for a rewatch! As cute as we thought it was, I know that those kids who already love the show and are familiar with these songs will love it even more!
